"I am in mobility. We carry the company. My job is secure"

Except that Mobility has had layoffs. I worked with Mobility people who have gotten laid off. So you can keep your wishful thinking if it helps you get by but it's not remotely true.

I guess you all fail to recognize satire.

Every person that have known in the last 10 years that accepted a non bargained management role in wireline and then accepted a management role in mobility has always came back to wireline operations. They were smart enough to see the writing on the wall.

I bought my last 3 AT&T phones at Walmart. No cramming, no scamming. No weird extra charges.

I know, it sounds impossible.

Oh please. Performance rankings mean sh-t. Each team only gets to choose 1 or 2 exceeds and rest is on track.

None of the old ‘factors’ count anymore with RTO. They will let go of the best workers if they are not located in the ‘select’ areas. Then they want to know why our stock has not changed in 20 years.

You could be considered a second-class employee like the Wire Techs, ask the company negotiators, they have classes of employees. Is that the same as India’s caste system?

Incorrect, Sir.

In fact, though it's not even a consideration, more times than not it just ends up being lower paid employees due to other factors (value to team, experience, etc... potential impact to team once you're gone).

There is no guidance to consider salaries, at all. It's just about headcount, and you have to provide the number of heads called for.

Things that go into ranking who is out the door first:

  1. Attitude - If you are a trouble maker, great time to get rid of you. Don't talk or ask too many questions on town halls or meetings.
  2. Merit - if you su-k at what you do, you are a good candidate for getting rid of.
  3. Age - if you are over 60, relative to a 40 year old, you are a much better candidate to get rid of everything else being equal.

Wrong.

I've had to surplus people and salary wasn't even a consideration. We basically rank people by performance and current responsibility and lowest rank goes. Occasionally, when we mention surplus activity to the team, someone may hint they're ready to retire and that person will be marked surplus.

Sorry to disappoint. Seldom do rankings for surplus take into account salary - at least not for management. You are ranked along with your Lx peers by your supervisor... and sometimes consolidated with your supervisor's supervisor. Lowest perceived performers regardless of salary, tenure, age, etc. are surplused.
