Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

If they ask, I'll volunteer

No hard feelings here. I don't hate Chevron, I'm just ready to move on to the next step of my career. If I can do it with the help of a nice severance package, even better. I know a few others who feel similarly to me, so hopefully all of us get a chance to leave and maybe help somebody who wants to stay here keep their job.

@hgg+,
“2020 was different time. Market conditions were favorable.”
IMO, the 2024 market is NOTHING LIKE the brutal 2020 market. I might add, any ‘early career’ employee who makes the choice to stay in this business better get used to it, after a long career I can tell you the reorgs are coming more often and there’s every reason to believe they will not abate…damn technology!, and ballooning population with access to university level education…we’re not special anymore. Sh!t.

I worked in CITC and volunteered during Transformation. Got about 75% of my salary, vacation payout and full pension. My team lead also got my CIP payout in March as well. Later, I was encouraged to join another colleague who was left standing at another producer. Still in O&G, still believe in this industry. Prioritize yourself and your family, don't burn bridges and don't be shy about moving around.

@ggh: "...For early and mid career employees it will be tough...". Unfortunately, yes. This is what happens in shrinking/sunset industries (Yes, "sunset" may be 30 years away, but the sky is definitely starting to dim). Word has also gotten out to the universities that oil is not an avenue for a dynamic or long-lived career, so both the number and quality of future new hires is going to decrease.

2020 was different time. Market conditions were favorable. There are not many jobs outside. For early and mid career employees it will be tough...

If there's any sort of package offered, run, don't walk, to sign up for it. Those (few) who turned down the 2020 offer have been kicking themselves for the last four years.

Agree with @ndu. MW/JG/JJ were surprised how many took the package in 2020, they expected more "loyal employees" to stick around and help forge the Transformation. The 2025/26 package will be much leaner, there will be more involuntary than voluntary departures. Others will be told (or maybe not told?) they have 2-3 years to train their India replacements, then they're gone too.

The last time they gave the option for the golden handshake, way to many people asked for it, think it left them in a bit of shock. Doubt they’ll offer it again

@OP+1u7WwBff Why are you mature and level headed? You should whine on this site all day and dont train your replacement like a true American!
