Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Are we next?

Since Chevron is having major layoffs, should we worry about being next? It wouldn't be the first time for XOM to get an idea from other O&G companies and run with it.

My only hope is that XOM still prefers to do PIPs, which are cheaper, and that might save us from a major layoff round.

Chevron is assembling an impressive recruiting team in Bangalore with an initial budget of $1 billion and a target of poaching 600 EM BTC personnel.

Maybe this will reduce the pressure for EM Executives to layoff HC10 people for at least a year.

For all of our departing BTC colleagues: Congrats on the 50% raise you will receive, and please deliver at least 10 CVs of EM colleagues to your new Chevron boss.

Op troll. All employees know the pip program is the annual layoff.

I am too busy getting "laid" to be worrying about getting laid off.

Really hoping that some XOM employees will want my very large "package."

Pip is the layoffs. I’m seeing folks sacrificed when they are older or if they move teams. This place brings out the ugly in people. If you’re not a buddy just smile and take it. No one cares. I should have known better when former Xom employees that came to us bolted when they purchased us.

@irz Huh? Exxon did layoffs during the pandemic outside of the PIPs. End of 2020 I’m pretty sure

Chevron layoff is just their initial Bangalore kickoff celebration. Chevron will celebrate their Bangalore kickoff annually with a 5% layoff, just like EM.

I look forward to EM’s panic when Chevron poaches over 50% of BTC.

Chevron does layoffs almost every year around this time (former employee here). EM much prefers to PIP everyone instead and operate under the radar.

It's been years since Exxon had layoffs. There were a few in my early years, the 1990's to early 2000's. The difference then was the person being laid off got a decent separation package. I still have the payout schedule for the EMIT (GIS) layoff in the early 2000's. A person with 31+ years of service received 65 weeks pay. Other earlier layoffs also included addition years of service, plus a payout. This would make some NRE's eligible and it would also increase the pension/lump sum. Typically this was +2 years, but I've heard of +5 years in the early 1990's.

Years ago we were at a conference with she l and all other competitors. They told us exxon was the only one with research centers in the states. All others had them in India. This was a wake up call for most of the research engineers. Many went to production or other departments. I was told we would keep some research in house until the data from India could be trusted. I feel that that time is comming. It makes economic sense if you think about it. Just look at all the contractors we have now.
