Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Global survey is mandatory?

Got an email from my level 2 up manager . Stated that completing the survey is mandatory. They even had a list of who hadn’t completed it yet. So much for anonymity.

We were told it was encouraged, but not mandatory. I think in the past there were actual goals on completion rate and so it was heavily pushed that people do it. FFS, it takes a few minutes, just go complete the survey and be done with it. They're not going to do anything about it regardless of how you answer and many of the questions are pretty useless-- e.g. if you have a decent boss, then it doesn't matter b/c they're not the problem. The leadership is the problem. The people who come up with BS things to do are the problem. Orgs that have zero interest in actually doing something are the problem.

Exactly what I thought. Why are they making us waste our time? They don't listen or make changes based on what employees write.

Such a sh*tshow. But maybe they've tied the completion rate to manager performance so they're pushing.

If survey respondents’ and non-respondents’ identities are known by management, that to me is an egregious violation of what is supposed to be confidential. I’m just d-mbfounded. It’s not just responses themselves but whether as well you responded at all or took the survey. The whole thing soup to nuts must be confidential and anonymous and if it’s not, a palace revolt is in order.

@dsu+1uAG2EcG Is that you SF? You said on a team meeting that you knew us all well enough that the way we posed our answers you know who we were individually— and would wait to read results before preparing reviews. WF is a complete BS company with managers like you completely kissing a$$ to receive your bonus.

If it's a positive survey then it's anonymous, if it's negative then it isn't.

Former WF employee and manager. The list of those who have not taken the survey is shared ahead of the deadline. After that, you only get % information for responded/not. I had many teams and managers reporting to me. I could see my org data, and drill down to see each managers teams data but I never had information on who answered questions a certain way. If a team was below 8 people responding, you could not get results specific to that team so you were not able to “figure out” who said what or answered with low ratings.
Now that I’m retired, I can say with honesty that WF has gone down the sh!tater since CS came on board but they DO try to honor the anonymity of the survey responses. Manager catch a lot of grief for people who don’t respond and it impacts their reviews. That’s why we try to get a decent response rate.

Where does the survey claim to be anonymous?

Breathing is mandatory. Employment is optional.

If it were mandatory - why is the completion rate so low?

I too was told it was mandatory. And yes, they do know who’s not taken it. It will affect your already pitiful bonus

We were told taking the survey is not mandatory but strongly encourage participation by my manager, due to a report they get on how many people who have completed the survey, and the upper management of the manager gets hounded to get his or her people to complete the survey. I was told by my manager in a team meeting that it is confidential but not anonymous. However that manager mentioned in this current thread on who shares who has taken the survey so far? Kinda really says a lot about our culture here at Wells. Charlie has done a great job tearing down which was not a bad place to work back in the day. What a shame.

if your manager knows you well enough they can usually figure out who made what comments. If there is anything incidiary enough, unethical, or illegal you might get a call to talk about it, but other than the free form comments everything else is just rolled up. On my comments I just indicated why bother with the survey, nothing ever gets done

My manager sent an email this week: "80% of our team completed the survey, please lets make it to 100%". 👎🏻👎🏻

There's a difference though in knowing who simply completed it and knowing what the individual results were. I doubt managers can see each individual survey answers

Actually, it can be true.
Was actually outed in a team call that I didn't complete the survey. It really backfired as everyone now clearly knew it wasn't annon or actually confidential. I thanked them for outing me and promptly left the call. Mgr called me after that wanting to talk about it and I declined but took the mandatory, non annon, non- confidential survey.
They may bug you for not completing it.
Oh, and by not taking it can reduce your bonus as @iwy+1uAG2EcG stated, Don't worry, that is an entirely different calc.
