Dummy thinks you can give more than 100% effort.

I suggest that you turn on daily notifications from Workday, so that you can see how ATT operates. I suggest you turn them on for LinkedIn for the job titles you are looking for. You can see for yourself how the job market turns.

Lots of fake job listings out there right now. The job market went into overdrive in February this year and ran out of gas about a month ago I'd say. There's no chance I'd identify here where I now work, because most of you would figure out who I am, but I would say your best chances are to build your network of contacts and work them aggressively.

For someone putting 1% effort into finding a job, will get .00001% of effort given back to you from recruiters. They are making commissions off of whoever fills the position best. They aren't doing charitable work. So if you want a new job, you need to put 200% effort into that single job application without looking like a psycho. When you apply for that job, find another one and put over 200% into that one too. Repeat this until you are mentally exhausted and depressed with yourself. Only then will your efforts be rewarded. Good luck

Thank you so much for the detailed tips - I’ve done every single thing you’ve listed, and more, and still nothing.

I just want to make sure people know the realities of the job market. It’s bad

Not going to lie - it’s rough out there.

It is, but if you put in hard work, and yes, treat your next job hunt as a job, in which you are your own boss, so hold yourself accountable... anyway, if you put in the work, you will find a great new career. I was able to find a new job in about 3 months. Admittedly, it is a bit tougher than T was, but the pay is also better, so it evens out. In the 3 months I was looking, I was applying to at least 3 jobs per day M-F, often more, even if they were not something I really wanted to do, or thought I was qualified to do, I still applied, and even interviewed, because it's practice, and you never know what might come out of it. I actually turned down some interviews too, you have to know your worth and if you sense anything is off during the first, or second interview (if they want a third one, unless it's a dream job, I'd turn it down too), don't be afraid to tell them it's not for you. Taking control from hiring managers is a very powerful confidence boost. Spend the rest of your time networking, building out your LinkedIn profile and refining your resume. Take the opportunity to learn new skills, too! Basically, work your 40 hours, this is your job until you find the next one. Finally, take advantage of that LHH program you get when you're surplussed. It was actually great! Having a personal adviser was a huge help, and their group sessions are amazing. When you know you're not alone on this journey, you're so much more motivated to find the best outcome for yourself, it truly makes a huge difference. Also, you will get access to LinkedIn Learning with LHH, so you can use your free time to learn new or level up existing skills, or learn a guitar or something! ;)

Some more tips:

  1. Keep a detailed log of all the jobs you're applying to and interviewing for. After a while, it will get impossible to keep track without it. There are some apps and sites for that, or you can just use an Excel spreadsheet that we all love so much!
  2. Be careful with AI. You can use it to help you craft some emails, maybe give you some ideas for your resume, but don't copy/paste from ChatGPT, many, if not most, employers use systems what will recognize AI generated content and automatically disqualify you.
  3. Don't be afraid or too proud to reach out to friends, family, old colleagues or contact for help. You'd be surprised how many people will be happy to help with whatever they can, even if you haven't spoken with them in years. I got many leads and tips from old coworkers that left T years ago (we remained connected on LinkedIn). None of those lead to a new job, but they tried to help, and it was a huge confidence boost knowing that people do care for each other, still, and once again, you're not alone.

Jokes aside and seeing people devastated by huge medical bills, I will take a cr-ppy job for a big pay cut with no qualms if it has decent benefits. No ego when it comes to taking care of my family, and they would benefit most from healthcare coverage at this point.

It's not in this company's culture to help others and you see it right at the top. No surprise ex-employee's don't offer lifelines when they've found a safe haven.

Not going to lie - it’s rough out there.

Been gone since end of May and no prospects. I don’t know anyone that has landed a job yet that got laid off during that time and beyond.

The competent ones will never tell just anyone, especially in this setting my friend!
I would also venture to say, it is "your type" that they were also running from, not just incompetent leadership...just saying, please do not take offense, unless you should.

" Welcome to Walmart!"

You make fun.

Meanwhile, for management at least...their pay is competitive, and their benefits are superior to what T offers. And their stock is up over 100% in value in the last ten years.

Serious replies please. I know the job market is super tough right now, but maybe the lucky bunch could help other searchers.
