Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

As we move on...

  • Do not stress out over things you do not have control over.
  • We are going through an LR.
  • There will be another one next year, possibly two.
  • There will be one or two in 2026, 2027 and 2028. It'll continue.
  • This is Cisco and this how Cisco operates, we have annual LRs and people are affected.
  • Enjoy it while you can, try to save some money, try to not be sacked, try to learn, grow and network. All of these things are hard to accomplish but if you are persistent and focused some things will work out.
  • Also, learn from the LRed folks, ask them what they did to move on, how they transitioned, where they went, what worked and what did not - it will help you if your time comes.
  • Everthing else just wastes your internal energy and it's stressing you out - do not let that happen and gear things towards what will work for you.
  • Godspeed

I think the biggest thing is don't be complacent. I see sooo many people that are literally allergic to work at Cisco. If you try to hand them anything, even if it's explicitly their job, they try and hand it off or deny that it's theirs. Or they will coast along in stagnant roles that have nearly no work/value add... thinking that people don't notice that they don't do anything. It's absolutely noticed.

That's not at all to say everyone in the LR was deadweight/lazy. Not at all. But in my org, I can say that everyone that was impacted... it made sense. There wasn't anyone I was like "Why them???".

Do not stress? Is that something that you can do on cue? Please, teach the rest of the world how that is done.

the repetition of this year over year has created a massive void in morale that has become a black hole. I genuinely don't know how to motivate my team as I am going to be asking them to do the work of 2-3 people at the same pay. How do I retain the rest of my reps when the outlook on the business and general vibe is so off?

Just look at older posts, it goes all the way to 2015.
Every. Single. Year.
