Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Are any of you having luck with finding another job?

I’ve been with T for more than ten years. I can see that the company is changing rapidly and once relatively stable jobs are no longer secure. I assume there will be more layoffs, more attrition with RTO, and definitely more offshoring. I also badly need a change. I became bored out of my mind with my job here. Now I’m afraid that I’ve been here for too long. What’s your experience with looking for another job out of T? Is long-term T on a resume a repellent? I’m just afraid the longer I stay the more difficult it will become to find something else, while the risk of being cut is growing steadily.

AT&T is still a brand name employer so it doesn't make any sense to hide that on your resume.

Remember if you talk negativity against your (former) employer ot reflects negatively on you!

Bottom line, diligently keep at your job search and good opportunities will present themselves for employment. Much success to you!

My spouse has worked for T for 30 years. He just started finally looking for new a job when the strike started. He is asking for starting salary of what he currently makes at T plus what he makes at his current job. However; the starting salary in the field that he is going into is $45,000 more than what he makes at both jobs. I just look at him and his utter stupidity in amazement most of the time. He finally completed his two year degree in December. But, until the strike and the increasing cost of benefits eating away at his pay, he has really enjoyed his union job all those years. He’s a nice guy, someone will come along and undercut him on the pay and he will be happy because he says “money doesn’t matter to him” even though he has a lot of kids to take care of.

A listing of T employment for 15 years is often the same as a blank period. Identify yourself as a stay at home parent or caregiver wanting to reenter the workforce. You will likely have more succeee landing some interviews this way.

I know a lot of former T employees who have landed well - more responsibility, better culture, more money and a brighter future....make you plan to move on...you will be happy you did...

At T today, everyone is looking over their shoulder waiting for the next cut from Stinkey who can't run a business properly...he's arrogant, has run this company into the ground and lost billions with his many failed acquisitions.....tragic...

I haven’t been looking hard just yet, but I know several folks that got laid off and haven’t found anything in months. Most jobs on LinkedIn are ghost jobs, they don’t actually exist. Best to use your network and speak with folks you know that work at other companies. That’s how you get hired and with better pay. I plan to start looking in earnest in the next couple weeks. A lot of hiring takes place in Nov and Dec, just fyi as budgets open up or headcount’s approved.

Yes...in fact I've had 3 jobs making more money with better benefits since I left that cesspool. Much better work environment and work from home. Stankey and his clown show isn't the only circus in town.

The best advice to follow is minimizing any mention of T on your resume. Longterm employment at T is a red flag to recruiters and hiring managers given its reputation in the industry. Distance yourself as much as you can from AT&T.

What field are you in? But regardless of that, do not resign until you have accepted a job offer. Update your LinkedIn in and interview! That will be beneficial to you whether you get a job offer or not. Most importantly, do not engage on any kind of job search or interviews from company devices or during company time! ATT is aware of everything you do on all company devices and they will fire you with zero hesitation if you job hunt during company time. Dang... also, do not tell any of your peers that you are looking to leave. Word will get to your boss before you know it.
