Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Laid off 43 plus years!

I was displaced at age 65 after working for WF for 43 years 5 months. I worked an average of 60 hours a week as an exempt employee. My projects and reports were always on time and I rarely used sick time. I was the employee asked to assist my peers on a regular basis
So much for employer loyalty!

They were letting your salary go, not you. It's not personal. You had a damn good run. Enjoy retirement.

65? You should have retired years ago. You just hit the lottery and now get 14 months salary and unemployment benefits on top of that. Pop some champagne and enjoy!

A 43 year veteran would never call their fellow Team Members an Employee. FAKE NEWS!

@OP, were you remote? In a non-hub? In a dying business? Using an old technology? Were your duties moved to India?

The displacement decisions always must have a good business case. What do you think the reason was that you were selected?

@jrx+1uEda0hd “pretty d-mb” sums up your response. Regardless of the validity of OP, you’re concern over ANYONE stating how long they worked here is of no consequence to anything at all.

And news flash, there are a lot of foolish old souls who have been here decades too long and believe they are owed something for their misplaced loyalty and over abundance of apathy

At this point I have come to the realization that this bank deserves no loyalty or further sacrifices! Do bare minimum and work 39 hours or less. Doing anything more will only stress you out or ki-l you!!

If this is legit, it's pretty d-mb. There aren't that many people around that have 43 years. And saying 43 years and 5 months can make it pretty straightforward to identify who it is.

You're complaining that you're 65 and got laid off? Are you on crack? That would be the ideal situation. Over a year paid + health insurance? Then able to actually retire. Who in their right mind would work after 65 if you don't have to? And with that many years OP might be grandfathered into long gone retirement benefits.

If this is legit I'd suggest that OP STFU.

If you made it to 65 you are one of the lucky ones. The unlucky ones get laid off with 10-15 years to go to retirement and have to hustle up a replacement gig. Not easy in your fifties.

Not to mention you will get paid a pension for all the years before 2009.

You did well. Better than most. If you’ve been paying into your 401k for 45 years you should be set for life. Not sure why you’re not popping champagne corks right about now.

I have heard from many in their 50's and 60's being laid off or marked down on their performance review unfairly and fired with no severance. I am waiting for the class action age discrimination suit. I will join in gladly.

Sorry OP. Always remember you are more than your job. Lesson to young people- you are your first priority then your family then your friends. Your job is way way down the list. Treat it as such. There is zero loyalty. Your job doesn’t love you. Your job is not loyal to you ever.

Wish you the best OP. Thanks for your contributions and while it may be “bittersweet” because you didn’t have the upper hand here and serve Wells your retirement notice and have the celebratory parties or gatherings - it’s ok. Life will move-on on your side and we’ll keep the wheels turning on this stagecoach.
Cheers

Hopefully you were close to making the choice to walk away. There is no such thing as company loyalty and has not been that way for decades. Good luck to you, hopefully in retirement.

Do you feel the company should have employed you indefinitely?

From a 'feelings' perspective - probably feels like betrayal. Although, it's such a big company and so much turnover at every level of management, it really isn't personal (again - I agree management should at least think about the company as if it isn't just a robotic behemoth and we're all just replaceable cogs in the machinery).

On the bright side (hopefully) you were probably already thinking about retirement and they just gave you a year of paid time off! I don't think you really lose anything beyond your own control of the timing?
