Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Will the TA’s be voted up or down?

Little light on the wage increases. Most other industry contracts over the past year or so have been 25% and now Boeing is offering their workers 30%. The pendulum has started swinging back toward labor but not enough, loss of benefits is still an issue. AI is going to eliminate jobs now and in the future for anything not hands on.

Why don’t find those jobs if you can? A lot of trash just wants the free ride.

You sound like English is your second language and that's cool but leave that mentality behind. This country has thrived on taking advantage of low-cost, immigrant labour for hundreds of years while making them feel lucky to even have a job. It's manipulation, don't fall for it.

Boeing doesn’t use a tip and ring system.

Any percentage used is for a general wage increase for all.

Pretty sure the reference to comparing percentages was that you can't compare Boeing's 25% to AT&T's 19.33% or another company's 20%. A 25% raise at $20/hr is not comparable to a 19.33% raise on $22/hr. Percentages mean nothing if you're not looking at the basis and only get people worked up that they're "not getting as much of a raise," when in fact, they will still be making more than the other person.

Here are Boeing's current min/max for each pay grade. D3 looks a lot better, especially based on cost of living. And these are actual laborers, not a payment processor or office assistant.

Boeing
Grade Min Max
A $15.00 $23.27
1 $16.00 $38.82
2 $17.00 $40.08
3 $18.00 $41.35
4 $19.00 $42.55
5 $20.00 $43.74
6 $21.00 $45.04
7 $22.00 $46.27
8 $23.00 $47.56
9 $24.00 $48.81
10 $25.00 $49.98
11 $26.00 $51.30

A senior machinist makes way more than $15.

Their highest paid level WITH the previous proposed 25% raise would have gone to a max of $119k.

All airplane builders have the same MO, hire/layoff. Lockheed does the same so, you have to get the best possible compensation package while employed because one never knows when the next layoff is coming.

Boeing has a history of hire/layoff.
Contracts for airplanes run out, and it is layoff time.
Ask anyone that ever worked at the Evert plant

Boeing commercial aircraft cost almost a half-billion dollars. Plus they have all that government & military funding. They will factor any union wage increases and built it into their sales prices to the government. Meanwhile, the only lever AT&T has is to surplus people to balance the books.

They're taking the costs out of their employees first. Boeing announced furloughs for "tens of thousands" of non-union employees. Some may just be sent home for a bit, while others will have a week of unpaid time off every four weeks. Executives will take a "commensurate reduction in pay for the duration of the strike."

IMO, Boeing's union needs to give up the notion that they're going to get a pension back. Heck, I'd rather have the 401k and be able to better manage my own money. Boeing is now offering 4% whether employee contributes or not and will match 100% up to 8%.

“ Boeing had positions as low as $15/hr.”

You always quote the bottom of the wage scale, D3 also has employees starting out low too. Any percentage used is for a general wage increase for all. Just like in management you have L1 to L7 and based on a percentage each has a vastly different raise. Boeing also has varying wage scales an skill levels. A senior machinist makes way more than $15.

You will get nothing and like it!

We have to pay the leaders who built this debt to stay - you don't matter.

Where else do employees make 50 bucks an hour? And with only a High School education?
We are paid better than the venders that are slowly taking over some work, like in Mobility.

You cannot just compare % to %. Boeing's pay scale looks nothing like D3's. Boeing had positions as low as $15/hr. And that's in WA state that has a higher cost of living than the Southeast. Haven't taken the time to compare D9 since that's not my region, but I'd bet they're higher than D3.

So please don't make decisions based on statistics and percentages.
