Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Laid off after 6 years at WF

I was laid off from my M3 position in October of last year after six years of service. As I am in my mid-40s, I am currently facing challenges in securing a new job. I submit applications for at least five to ten positions daily, but I have not yet received any interview opportunities. I have noticed significant changes in the job market and application process over the past few years, and I find that I often do not receive responses from HR departments. I would appreciate hearing how others have navigated their job searches after experiencing layoffs. Thank you.

You're just pointing out your idiocy here.

@1dfe+1uGH9gkP is correct. You need to get a new position at Wells. The problem is the new management positions are going overseas in many cases: security and quality to name a few.
As a manager, you need to unlearn a lot of stuff you learned at Wells Fargo. In short, you have to learn to become more of a manager than a facilitator.

Once you get to an M3 level, you have to go on the offense and start looking for your next position after 2 to 3 years. Wells Fargo is no longer a place where a senior manager can expect to stay in the same role for many years (except, of course, for CS and his echo chamber).

i agree with the staffing / temp agencies / contract roles thought. we hire folks all the time from those agencies and while the work doesnt come with benefits it is an income stream and can let you get your foot in the door with new opportunities

The job market su-ks but I think it’s turning. Got contacted more in the last few weeks by recruiters than I did in the last year. Hang in there.

Suggestion: TekSystems and other contract companies can be useful to help get your next paying job. In this job market, I would not shy away from contract work. (Many companies use contract companies to get candidates, extending an option of temp-to-permanent positions). Good luck!!!

@jlp+1uGH9gkP Your post is spot on!

BTW, unfortunately LHH wasn’t as helpful as we are led to believe.

Utilize the 3rd party vendor LHH that you were given. They will redo your resume and provide career counseling.

The job market su-ks right now. It isn’t you. There have been layoffs in lots of companies and hiring isn’t matching what’s been laid off. Instead of applying to jobs, try networking instead. When things improve, one of your new connections will think of you for future positions. Things should improve in Q1.

Here is what you can expect, apply for 100 jobs, maybe get 3 or 4 interviews, maybe 1 or 2 companies get work from you for free.

If you're not getting responses or interviews, have your resume and Linked In profile reviewed by a professional.

do you have skills beyond managing? Problem is that most companies, just like at WF, are flattening their org structures and doing away with middle managementband as such there isn't as many openings and those that exist get way too many apps.

Networking didn't work for me. None of my connections panned out. LinkedIn was a joke. In a normal market these might have been good tools, but they failed me. Took me six months to land a new gig and took a massive pay cut.

Also, ageism is a thing.

Be wary of others offering advice who haven't been on the job market in the last decade. The old approaches don't work any more. And also be wary of anyone saying the problem is you. Likely, it's not. Good luck out there!

Have you networked? Finding and joining management groups. Have you analyzed. Getting your PMP or other industry-recognized certifications?
Are you using gen AI to create your resumes, cover letters and follow ups? Have you created or optimize your LinkedIn profile to showcase his skills and experience.

For those who have been applying to jobs online: have you been asked to create mini projects? I was asked to create a whole dashboard in Tableau before I even had an interview.
