Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Is 5-day a week coming in 2025; will T be a follower?

Now that Dell announced 5-day RTO you can bet T's HR is working overtime to craft a similar plan...

Let's see if T can be a leader and not a follower, with all these corporate policies. I want to say T is managed by too many old school boomer types folk to think outside the box and keep RTO at 3 days ..but let's see

Here in the Seattle area they have downsized their buildings so much that when everyone is required to go back to 5 days a week there will not be enough room for everyone. And AT&T knows that's. They are hoping people will get frustrated and quit so they don't have to lay them off and pay serverence.

Can confirm 5 day work weeks are coming. Heard of it for the first time from a mentor last week. They are yet to tell me something that didn't come true....

My, my, I must really be OLD....
I remember the days when, if you had a job you went to that job, when ever and where ever you were told......
And actually WORKED the amount of hours that you were being paid for.......
And if you wanted to collaborate you did that after work or on weekends on your own time.......
I guess they hired a whole bunch of bab1es and now they have to listen to all the crying and whimpering...
If I was running the circus I would fire all of these adolescent clowns.............

“ When will the people who are “tired of the whining about RTO” realize none of it is about returning to the office. It’s about cutting jobs based on a zip code. I would gladly go in to me local office 5 days a week if it meant keeping my job and getting to my full pension. But that’s no longer an option for me. And just because I don’t live in the magical zip codes doesn’t mean I’m dead weight so eff off.”

But that’s not what is being complained about. It’s page after page of “ OMG my life just can’t handle the idea of being forced to work in the office. My mental health will suffer if I can’t stay home. I have the mental capacity of a potato and need constant positive reinforcement.” The reality of RTO is not the center of the crying. I’ve never seen so many weak minded people in one forum other than one for the DNC.

Good! Maybe Dell will start making old-fashioned desktops again, we can just go back to cube farms with a desktop and desk phone and assigned seats. I’m tired of being available 24/7 and carrying all this cr@p back and forth every day.

Those whining for WFH should not be on the payroll. It’s clear you are weak and unable to do as asked by your employer. Separation is best. It would be best for you to get one of those jobs transcribing doctor’s notes from home.

What don’t you get? Many ATT employees are in the office 5 days a week,

Others do 3

Some do 1 a month.

It’s never going to be a one size fits all for 150k employees. So make your own decision based on your own needs and stfu.

CS&O has been 5 days a week since last year. You’re lucky you’ve made it this long. ;-)

Welcome to the party!

I like to come in usually a half hour late, sit at my desk and just space out at my screen for about an hour. Then maybe make the rounds and see how everyone's doing. Take a long break and come back to space out some more.

That's a straight sho-ter with upper management written all over her.

I prefer five days in the office.

Listening to Taylor Swift with my cats gets lonely.

Is 5-day a week coming in 2025

I sure hope so!

It'd be nice to save on my HVAC bill as well as internet bandwidth for pr0n and pir8ted movies. I've got my minivan converted to live at work all 5 days leeching on the attwifi access point in my spare time.

If being completely honest, I do my best work in the office for a dedicated period of time. I don’t have all the distractions of home.

Before Covid there was office 5 days a week.

People are complaining about RTO. AT&T pays your salary. If they want you in - go in or leave. Simple.

When we were outsourced to AT&T we were told you go or no job. Simple. We went.

Dallas Morning News August 2008

Mayor Tom Leppert and City Manager Mary Suhm had previously promised AT&T city subsidies, but had not released precise figures.

The recommended subsidies include a $5 million direct grant to be paid over three years. It also calls for a 90 percent tax break, over a 10-year-period, on the company's business personal property and corporate aircraft located at Dallas Love Field.

The aircraft tax break is estimated at $6.3 million over 10 years, said J. Hammond Perot, Dallas' economic development assistant director. The total incentive package has an estimated value of $11.5 million city officials say.

AT&T must keep its headquarters in Dallas for five years or must reimburse the city's tax incentives on a pro rata basis, according to the preliminary terms of the incentive deal.

"We're pleased that the city is recognizing the economic value of AT&T bringing its corporate headquarters to Dallas," company spokesman Walt Sharp said.

Mr. Sharp added that he did not yet know how many AT&T corporate aircrafts would be located at Dallas Love Field or at other airports in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

AT&T does expect to transfer 700 positions to its high-rise campus in downtown Dallas as part of the headquarters move. It's something Dallas City Hall officials relish: An influx of downtown workers could prompt increased center city development and attract more residents to Dallas' urban core.

My boss said we're probably going to two days a week. But I'm sure senior leadership is planning to override that.

It's about taxes, tax breaks and City Governments needing to boost the economy in the city centers. The powers that be saw the decline of revenues during 2020 and has put pressure on businesses to come back. Hence, Dell, Amazon and Tesla also come back to 5 days...John isn't going to lose his tax breaks over allowing a peon to WFH.

Does nobody realized how many groups are already 5 days a week? We have been since a year ago. You're all a bunch of whiny cry babies, You're just mad you can't do a load of laundry and greet your Amazon package when it arrives. Or perhaps some of you have something going on with the Amazon driver?

Stankey will go 5 days a week to make your life miserable and force you to quit. This is ultimate goal and no severance to you. So brace yourself and get ready for going back to the 1999.
