Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

D3 should have stayed out longer

As I sit in my truck ready to do some storm related repair work, I'm thinking D3 should have stayed out longer.

We could have done a moonshot on the contract and gotten anything.

The broke financially illiterate members need to save money and be more prepared for strikes.

Stupid D3 Union leadership took us on a strike way too early in the game. D9 was smart and are waiting it out. At least they can still go out right before their winter storms hit.

Good thing we didn't, 'cause longshoremen would have made us look like amateurs. I swear they have mafia ties. Head ILA dude makes over $700k/yr (just as ILA pres, not counting his other union emeritus pay) and has a penchant for expensive cars and boats.

Don’t ever forget that the company doesn’t care about you. You’re a number and a location and if either of those don’t fit the current method of madness, you’re cut loose without mercy or remorse. It’s not about your contribution or value at all.

It’s all business with this company, it’s been said over and over if we don’t like it quit. So when it comes to work it’s just a check, going to do my job and no more.

That's my attitude here in the west. No overtime this winter. I'm going to be warm and dry after my 8 hours. Put me on the do not call list.

That’s the culture now so I’m only here to get as much compensation as possible, just like the CEO who now makes over 26 million after his recent 3 million dollar raise.

AT&T didnt care about my emotional well-being and family ties when they tried to RTO me to another state. Get what you can get from them any means possible.

It's not personal. It's business. Right?

I agree at the very least they should be getting bonuses extra pay but my point was why at this time are you talking about money when as you stated people are just trying to figure out how to deal with the devastation. I have been through a CAT 4 with 15 feet of storm surge and would never wish that on anyone and not use it as a reason to make it a point to increase my pay, I hope your family never has to experience what it is to lose everything you hold dear to your heart because for me after two years the pain is still there.

People have lost the lives and loved ones, and your first thought was to post here that you should’ve stayed out for more money? Holy smokes.

FML. Making important decisions that are going to effect your finances and where you spend 50% of your waking hours, based off emotions is a loser's approach. Grow up. Emotions have no place in this. Fu-k me.

I can only care as much as the company.

They've filtered out many alarms.
They won't give the NRC OT to process tickets.

They've reduced core crews to bare minimum.

Doesn't sound like they care so I'll take care of me and mine first. Good luck contacting me for callouts.

until you have been praying that your family will not lose everything, sorry your post is at the least arrogant and insensitive.

Many of the techs out there restoring service for their community live in the affected communities so yeah .. their family and friends are affected by the disaster.

At the very least they should be getting a bonus for restoration work but some of you think answering the call is good enough while remaing safe and dry. So maybe rethink who's being arrogant and insensitive.

BTW, you su-k if you want to leverage natural disasters and states of emergency to line your pockets.

STFU. We don't work for a charity or public safety agency. This company is in the top 50 of the Fortune 500 list and wouldn't think twice about replacing us with cheap labor.

The citizenry should practice more self sufficiency and alternative E-COMM preparedness.

The agreement hasn't been ratified yet, so, maybe the membership will agree with the OP. Then again, maybe not.

I understand the techs are out in the field restoring essential services and for that I am grateful, but until you have been praying that your family will not lose everything, sorry your post is at the least arrogant and insensitive. Yes, I made the decision to move to Florida and the people that work for AT&T chose to do so as well, we all have the opportunity to walk away.

What id--t chooses to go on strike when the weather is still good?

The "id--t" that doesn't want to look like a greedy fu--ing ba----d by pointing at a catastrophic event with his hand out asking how much it's worth for them to go help.

And the same kind of "id--ts" that don't want to grill out in the rain and snow while they don't collect a pay check.

If D9 has two failed TAs, they would have to go out on economic strike, and there are not as many protections for an economic strike as there are for ULP. D9 wouldn't have standing for ULP strike at this point.

BTW, you su-k if you want to leverage natural disasters and states of emergency to line your pockets. I'm also pretty sure your union brothers in GA, NC, SC, FL, et al. are only somewhat consoled that they are actually back on the job with a paycheck instead of grilling out for free so they can rebuild their lives.

He's out there facing a higher risk of injury or death to restore service to people for a company that couldn't be bothered to give him a higher wage and gold plated healthcare first/second responders deserve.

You can stop clutching at those fair pearls.

So you’re saying the Union leaders should have filtered in a Cat 4 hurricane into their strike plans?

Winter storms comes every year and along with it restoration work every winter. What id--t chooses to go on strike when the weather is still good?
