Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

How?

I’m new to the bank and have been working here for about four weeks but I noticed some team members are permanently working from home. How did they get that option?

I know a lot of people went out on a Covid-19 high risk and were offered temporary positions and eventually got offered permanent and are now out of the milage requirements or have no site near them at all to return to office and just WFH.

Most of the Legacy MyWork employees were ordered to RTO when CB didn’t like the program.
Too many conference calls where you could hear a kids ball game in the background or shopping. Obviously not “WFH”. Those that did it ruined it for everyone else.

Become indispensible and ki$$ up to your manager big time.

then set your boundaries.

If you are truly considered indispensible, your manager will do everything to protect you.

Oh! and be sure to ki$$ up to their manager too. The more the merrier.

Every MyWork person I know has a medical accommodation, most had it before Covid or are not in a core location.

Some roles/functions inherently have more flexibility. Others less so.

But if you are on the same team/same role, then @mwz+1uLP5xlX has provided you with the answer for most people.

Others (when we were all asked to RTO after C19) pursued the 'Medical Accomodation' (which has a broad definition, including psychological/anxiety, in addition to physical challenges), which use to be easier to get.

True some are on accommodations but once they gave the adherence monitoring and power to managers it turned back into the classic "some managers enforce it and others don't" nonsense.

You'd think the Bank would put controls in place to be consistent and therein avoid potential lawsuits but...nope.

When you were discussing the job requirements before accepting, did you ask about working from home? Can you share either the LOB or give us an idea what you are doing? This may help us give you more specifics. Appears there are a few “old timers” here, and possibly lurking hr.

Some employees that have been around for a very long time are grandfathered into "MyWork". They've been 100% remote for nearly 2 decades.

The Bank (under Ken Lewis leadership) requested employees volunteer to work from home due to office space constraints and signed them up for the "MyWork" program. 100% remote with only occasional office visits for in person meetings. The program paid for internet, office furniture when you first sign up, printer, monitors, and a VPN router. It was done as a money saving program because it was cheaper to pay for internet service than office space.

Legacy MyWork employees have been permitted to stay in the program however that is slowly changing (some have been called back).

This part is my opinion so take it with a grain of salt - I think the Bank wants to pull the band aid off slowly and bring them back in phases so we don't have a large number of SME's leave/retire at the same time.

A job role change requires they exit mywork and RTO unless there is a medical accomiation.

Employers are legally required to provide accommodation for various conditions and situations. Often having the person work from home is the best and simplest solution. For example, person can't drive; work from home vs bank provides driver.

Here's how: There is a term you will hear called- " favorites and cronies ". Also applies to promotions to management positions.
