Travel/Vacation while on non-working notice

Hello,

Can you travel or vacation while on a non-working notice or are you supposed to remain available during that time?

In a perfect world, I’d like to use part of my eventual non-working notice to travel and then begin to pull in unemployment when the severance kicks in.

You’re in a non working period. So they’re not going to ask you to do work. About the most you’ll get is a coworker asking you something.

Your access is turned off the day you’re notified. You’re not going to be able to work even if they wanted you to.

Some of y'all are really, really, egregiously d-mb. Unemployment is paid from taxes on EMPLOYERS that have already been collected.

you can travel as long as you are available for work should they want to contact you. even after you turn in your laptop this still applies. if you are not reachable/available during your working notice, that is grounds for termination without severance.

So no vacation on remote mountaintops without cellular ... or similar

Who said that they wouldn’t be looking for work on unemployment?

Me personally I’ve been working for 25+ years with no gaps or unemployment drawn. When I get let go here, I have no shame in drawing unemployment while getting severance. I’ve put in the time.

You are free to do whatever the minute you were laidoff. Take a vacation for sure if you can!! 🏝️

You already know the answer to the letter of the “law” if you’re asking the question. But the reality has already been explained

Stop expecting handouts with unemployment and actually try to find work. Unemployment on last for so long and if you don't try to find a job while on severance, UI will run out before you know it. ACTUALLY TRY TO FIND WORK!

Severance and expecting UI is selfish. You should be looking for a job and not relying on UI. Many rely on UI and when it runs out ask "are there extensions" while thinking it's a free for all. LOOK and try people!

Considering you won't have access to anything, I think you'll be ok.

This "non-working period" is more of a legal thing. Practically you are severed on day 1. Travel, fish, or both. If you are in tech your chances of getting rehired are slim to none. No one is hiring Americans anyway. The consulting service, LHH, starts up right away.

They won't call you back. You can go on vacation.

Yeah, a few weeks in they sent me directions on how to return the laptop, so I knew that was it!
