Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I regret I didn’t take VSP

I was thinking then that I should give myself more time here while I look for another job. Now I realize that all the stress, deep dislike for my job, and anxiety due to layoffs happening anytime, are not worth it. It is better to be still employed while hunting for a job, but sometimes being burnt out and reaching a point of literally not standing your workplace can paralyze you completely.

I wasn't offered this time (i turned it down in 2018), and am still here... but 100% if I'm around long enough to get another VSP offer I'm out! and I would not recommend anyone who is offered a VSP decline it from here on out.

How many times did they say in emails...."If you affected later on you WILL not get the same deal" That should have told you something.

I disagree with previous post. Job market is fine...two of my friends have had multiple interviews since the VSP. It all depends on how you market yourself. Verizon is just like all these other large companies. Layoffs are part of the job...there is always going to be the VP who thinks he's smarter than the last one...change things up, or try to make a name for himself. The problem with this place is that we have entirely way to many India leadership folks...They will always cater to their kind...and they will keep shipping things off to India since its way cheaper. Automation is a huge thing.....Look at the news with the dock workers...they want to automate that job to a point as well. If you have cornered yourself into only knowing how to do one thing...that's your fault. Don't be afraid to jump in something you have no idea about and learn. That's the issue with a lot of people..."that's not my job BS". learn it, do it better so the other A H gets let go. Gone are the times of knowing that one thing and staying at that gig forever. As mentioned above, the best time to find a job is while you have one. Find a smaller place...and change jobs. yeah you might not get the same vacation time or benefits...but that fear always hanging over your head weather some A H new boss likes you or does not, and you have to worry about getting taken out....I'm done with BS...after 28 years of this...that button never looked so good. lol

Easier to find an awesome job when you have a job

The job market isn't awesome right now - extremely competitive and layoffs happen at every company.

Everyone is feeling the post-vsp & rif chaos, stress, and overload. It's natural. Suggestion to take some time off to recharge and reimagine you're work boundaries.
