A few months back, I received 20yr anniversary email with $30.00 gift card link attached. I rerouted the $30.00 to someone else because it was insulting. Why bother. I did not say thank you to my mgrs. Was I supposed to???

id @apf+1uNSPVjc: Amen to that bro. For the 2 or 3 of us that are left, we have get-togethers with people from work we USED TO work with!
Wow! You're one of the lucky ones. I got a pack of cigarettes, a slap on the back, and middle finger waved in my face! (And I don't smoke!)
Remember, that $30 gift card will show as taxable income on your next pay statement. The bank really knows how to show their appreciation for their employees!
Thirty dollar gift card. I would have taken that. All I got was a congratulatory email from a senior VP
Yes, I do have at least figurative target on my back. Until the day comes, I will behave.
Congrats on 20 years! But you probably have target on your back now.
Congratulations on your long service. Pathetic effort from bank but better than nothing. I've yet to see a long service award other than one day off.
No, There’s no slap in the face quite like the gift of a gift card, especially when they “gross up” to devalue the gift card.
@apf+1uNSPVjc a cheerful lunch or drinks after work ha!!! Do you really work at BNY?!! Haven’t had one of those since they finished laying off 80% of my team 4-5 years ago and especially not now that they laid off a couple more. It’s not the same work environment. I used to love going to work and seeing people and hanging out after work. Now it’s such a drag especially since there’s hardly anyone left.
This is like people on the internet complaining about getting pizza for a reward. I’m like “where is my pizza” in a mumbling tone like the red stapler guy.
TLDR: most don’t get a $30 gift card. Feel lucky!
I don’t understand why managers don’t just use the VIP portal for this. You can give employees a decent award without much red tape.
Hey- better than the d-mb acrylic plaque or oh-so personal shout out ate the town hall!
Just to clarify, i did get service appreciation day. Thank you all for confirming the sentiment.
The company probably expects a gift from you for allowing you to still be here… 20 years used to be a reason to celebrate, but these days most likely you are thought of as one that at this point is easier to keep than to kick out..
But it’s different (or should be) when it comes to real humans you work with. Forget the company “gift”, it’s just a pitiful remnant of the old habit to acknowledge anniversaries.
But a cheerful lunch (or a few drinks after work) with humans who shared these 20 years with you would be meaningful. Not getting that would hurt me more than this silly email and gift card.
For 15 years I got 1 extra vacation day, just for that year. I guess they think $30 is better lol
30/20=1.5 USD per year? We are just parts of a money machine.
$30 more than I got for my 40th.
