Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Why are techs in NY trying to get a vote to decertify the union?

Techs in Manhattan and the Bronx are trying to hold a vote to remove the CWA. What’s the drama here? Will this cause layoffs? Why are they so anti-union?

@cban Sounds like someone struck a nerve. You sound bitter. Did you have a rough time on the picket line. Or maybe your wife left you because you couldn't pay the bills???

@8npa+1uNiZ68s Sure, sure. But your wife left you, your children no longer speak with you, your husband then left you too (after societ moved into more ‘permissible’ times), as you sit all alone in that garish McMansion of yours, balding & morbidly obese. But hey, you made all that money lol

The company has been pitting the ny metro techs against the northern nj techs for decades. I remember ny metro techs trying get out from under the CWA multiple times over the years. This will all need to go through lawyers and NLRB in DC and once membership realizes that union will paper them to death and that they are directly responsible for picking up 100% of the legal fees + Vz cannot help them the effort dies on the vine.

Union sold out new hires waayyyyy back in early 2000. Once most of the old pension eligible people are gone, probably about 5 years, union done .

I'm glad management never unionized. I made a fortune working during the strikes.

The IBEW and CWA completely through their members under the proverbial bus despite having the upper hand in negotiations on more than a few occasions dating back to 2011. The leadership was and is more interested in spending union dues on making political contributions that benefits the union leadership and their political cronies but not the members. They have lost job security, expanded and upgraded training, and pensions and health and welfare bennies for new members.

The union even missed and opportunity to organize management after their pensions were taken.

The union leadership and company board play for the same puppet masters.

Time to decertify and recertify under their own thing!

Have the meeting at the McDonald's on Jerome Ave and Kingsbridge Road. You won't have to send out an email or message. That's where most of trucks are parked for many hours at a time. I guess they have constant outages?

if the cwa had ba--s they would make every contractor be in the union so it would have less scabs
plus this union does nothing with the scabs who crossed the last picket

All these other unions getting huge raises....... CWA has not done s--t for the field or business office and COT and dispatchers , and all other craft. Fen insurance for BCBS is $400 a month.... B.S. raises in a inflationary environment. Union president meetings in VEGAS. M.F.er's....... They left the cpi raise out of the extension when we needed it the most.... CWA has no support from ALOT of craft because they su-k..... They are useless and another union like IBEW should be given a chance....... Chris Shelton snuck out the back door after destroying the contract..... Upstate N.Y. Locals .........Complete waste of dues..... The CWA IS DEAD MAN WALKING.

Remember when the whole executive board was voted out. It can be done again. We .just need to unite. And when your BA catches wind of it and decides to show up at the garage to smooth thing over you know where to tell them to go.

Or we just join Local 3 instead.

The union historically has been looking out for the troublemakers. Its quite telling that the same sc--w ups would get fired and union would fight for them to get back. Not once did they look at how to better it for the newer members. Zero job security. They just laid on their backs and let execs steamroll right over them. This is why those who are 1st and 2nd level management would not join, they are no better being in the union as they get nothing from it. Why pay for something when you get it for free? CWA was done when in 2010 they said yes to everything the company asked for.

The union definitely sc--wed the guys out of the EISP by not fighting to raise the numbers. It took 2 weeks to even get an answer.

i tell you because all what we as a union lost in 2010,new hires lost job security, pensions,,,,,,,,,,paying for medical, there are like only 2 choices of medical to pick ,pension band was frozen at 2010 to 2016 so you lose 5 years on your monthly pension, and the union said OH nothing CHANGED AT THAT TIME and another 2 years to 2024 cause you only get the last 2 years increases 2025 ,2026...the union have been sitting on their hand for a long long time simce 2010..also they dont want to lose their membership that why the package was only giving to the very few..UNION HAS NO POWER ANY MORE,,GOD FORBBID YOU GO ON STRIKE IN 2026 ,YOU ALL WILL BE SC--WED ..they had the company by the ba--s in 2010 when ny got hit with super storm sandy.but is the passed and you cannot do anything about it.

I would assume maybe because the union didn’t fight for more members to get the recent package. Maybe?. Pretty sure VZ would have taken a lot more than that applied for it, but union blocked it. No surprise. Union just trying to protect their own cushy job
