Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I started an AT&T call center job & they told us to watch our Bathroom Breaks?

This is my first 2 weeks in training at a Call Center for Att. I left Tmobile retail, today was the 3rd time the Manager/Coach told the training reps that “use the restroom only on your 15 minute breaks or lunch”. I asked for them to put this in writing in an email & she didn’t like that I guess, she said “if you are away from your calls you are losing money”. I have medical issues, I’m on several meds for high blood pressure & diabetes, those meds make me use the restroom a lot. I do like the training so far but this left a bad taste in my mouth too be honest.

Pi-s on them, if you are legit then go. Print the osha and labor rules on restroom breaks and document. If you cheat the system, karma will get you.

This is old news. T call center workers in Bangalore are never allowed breaks for any reason. So either hold it, soil yourself or pack your bags along with everyone else as your call center is heading to Bangalore.

Yup, we had a manager chastise a guy about how long it took for him in the restroom. We requested to meet in order to explain the two muscle groups at work. Grievance settled. That is why you need a Union.

“ Only a lazy manager would think that way. As a manager it is your job to know your people and know who is doing their job. Mickeymouse BS is an AT&T flaw.”

Sadly the reasoning is because the vast majority of call center employees are never doing what they should be doing. This is NOT a case of “a few bad apples “. The work habits in the call center are atrocious and the company is so concerned with lawsuits that you are not allowed to get the “bad apples “ off payroll in a timely manner. This incentivizes the bad behavior to spread and over the years it has become out of control.

Hopefully AI and a virtual call center will eliminate the “problem “.

Strike duty in the 1980s. Engineers assigned to be operators. Lady supervisor told us we had to ask permission to go to the potty. Scene out of Driving Miss Daisy - one of the older engineers stood up and said “I’m a grown man and will take a pi$$ or smoke when I da@# well please”, and walked out to the break area. All the rest of us followed, left her with an empty room. She never said another word about bathroom breaks.

Back in the old days, when operators actually manned long switch boards and make connections, operator supervisors wore roller blades and rolled up and down the line. They were brutal to the operators. Culture.

when I told the call center hiring manager that I had a colostomy bag, they didn't ask any further questions and hired me on the spot. I use a 5 gallon home depot bucket next to my desk and the nice young man in the cube next to me switches it out at the end of the day before I leave.

I had the same problem until I started wearing a diaper. Now I don’t lose money and the clean up is a sync.

Go to AT&Ts employee portal and apply for a job accommodation since you have the medical issue to back up your need. That will help you protect yourself and allow you to take restroom breaks when needed.

Hey bud. You do you especially if you have a medical condition. Get everything in writing or record conversations on your phone regularly.

They might let you go. They might not.
