Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Has anyone used LHH and had any luck with their services?

I’m starting the program now and just looking for feedback.

It took me several weeks to finalize my resume. The main information you need is delivered in live classes. They do not record their live classes. So you are supposed to attend this class, and instantly recall all the info that was shared and be able to demonstrate everything you just saw. Because there are no written resources for these topics.. When I meet with my coach she talks rapid fire for 30 minutes. . She is exasperated with me. I throw up every time before I meet with her. And as soon as our session is over, I start dreading the next one. And I cry a lot. I am trying to do my job search, but what little self confidence I had left has been knocked out of me.

Hi LHH career services,
I'm amazed by how slow & inefficient LHH works, I got retrenched by S&P as my team restructure to India. My company HR tole to register LHH, I also attached S&P letter, a month passed & noting form LHH. Is it a real service or just a show off to make laid off staff feel ease at retrenchment time? With LHH way of inefficient super slow, no update, no response doing, I have no believe in your career help.
Regards,

They are really good for redoing your resume, and showing you how HR departments really use LinkedIn to hire people. Once they teach you that, the rest is BS.

I’m not a fan. I received the LHH services as part of my layoff package. I’d rate them a whopping “ehhh.” They helped revise my resume (to no great acclaim) but in other ways were distant and unhelpful.

Impressive if you found a job quickly, given your writing skills.

Most people have not been in the job seeking market for quite some time and LHH provides a service that will help you navigate. It doesn't cost you a thing, except your time, and you may pick up some good tips. Just helping to write a resume that will get you past the AI used by recruiters is worth it. But you do you.

I will save you the time and at the end like an ad on Youtube tell what LHH will tell you secret of finding a job is.
But if you have been out of a job you can take their courses and refresh yourself. Depending on your job function may help with resume but they may not have any idea about job functions to write you good resume. Their speciality in resume writing looks if you are customer facing/ in retail or sales but if you speciality are not those areasthey may hurt your resume than do good and hiring manger throws out your resume.
LHH is NOT a job placement firm or recruiter they are only to "coach" you.
And finally the secret according to LHH of finding a job is "Networking" with everyone and telling them you are looking for a job whether it's your friends, family, postman, store cashier anyone and everyone you come in contact with your spouses- uncles- inlaws- neigbors- nanny included. (Seriously they tell everyone you looking for job as 90% jobs are through networking.)
This is sad we jobs are not given by what you know but who you know.
And also they tell you update LinkedIn and job history and add everyone on it too and that all employers are looking at it.
(I got a job without networking or being hyperactive on LinkedIn. It was not easy or fast but I found one) but this what LHH says is how to find a job.

LHH is a decent service. It’s a good second set of eyes for your resume, and good for calibrating on how to approach the job search. Also, job searching can get lonely, so meeting with the career coach every week or so is a good way of staying engaged and focused.

Ok for those who need resume help but worthless aside from that. Condescending coaches. Try your local community college for courses, many offer those who are unemployed free resume, LinkedIn, cover letter, etc. types of classes. Much better than LHH (I've tried LHH twice in the past 8 yrs. ad both times was displeased).

Totally a worthless service unless you have no experience writing a resume. But don’t expect getting a job out of it all. I think verizon pays so that HR people can feel good about themselves.

LHH is a joke. They'll do a look over of your resume but besides that they even set the expectations really low. I was really turned off by my meeting with their coach or whatever they call it. Kinda condescending and looks like a really good game for them to get $$$ from Verizon for so called service. Once you're out of Vz you are on your own.

They did a great job redoing my resume and taught some interesting tricks using LinkedIn and interviewing. That is about the extent of it.

If it’s been a while since you were in the job market looking, I’d recommend using them. Update your resume, attend webinars, connect with LHH cohorts, picks the brains of the career coach. All in all, their services can help you wrap your mind around job searching. Their job search engine and own job placement services is of little benefit from my experience. Just be prepared to be in this for the long haul, given the current job market, be prepared for 9 to 12 month search and a 5% or less call back rate.

I was provided LHH services when I was part of the RIF the week before the VSP was announced. Last day on payroll was June 28.

Career counselor is super nice and is a great support system. That said, I've had absolutely no luck with them. They've helped with my resume and that's about it. The problem is the job market and LHH can't fix that. I have 133 applications, 67 denied, 66 still open, only 2 interviews, and have not had an interview since July and LHH didn't help get those at all.

Just set your expectations because the job market is a lot worse than what people think it is

FYI, if you have plans or just don't want to immediately find a new job, they'll allow you to pause your LHH benefit. Just let your assigned coach know.
