I've only recently started using my caregivers leave. Normally I'd take a vacation day if something important came up. Now I'm banking all my vacation time and just using caregivers leave. I spoke with my peers in the office everyone is doing this.

If you get surplussed use all your caregiver leave the last 2 weeks, then you also get paid out for your PTO.
Winning.
"Fact: an AD I know criticized one of his reports as a lazy POS who uses all of their PCGL hours in a year.
If that’s what you want, by all means go for it."
It's so obvious the caregiver leave is a trap.
Yes!! Use it. if not used it will be taken away.

used caregiver leave to take my grandma to Costco.
“ Pretty clear requirements on what it can be used for. Use at your own risk“
Most healthcare operations have patient portals where all of their appointments future and past are archived. This is a good reference point if anyone were to question your caregiver hours. No risk.
“If you are looking to be chosen for the layoff package, feel free to use all 15 days.”
This might be the best advice I have seen on these boards.
There's always some nitwit.
Or in this case maybe 2.
Nothing like this ever factors into layoffs unless you work for a d..che. A stupid d..che who doesn't understand how he has and may keep his own job.
They took pto days away, and they gave this. Use it.
Never used it. Use PTO instead. It is widely abused in the SE, especially during warmer months. A different form of abuse is taking time without logging it, same as with PTO. Caregiver time in excess of 6 hours per week should require L5 approval. This would stop the worst of the fraud, as well as ensuring management is aware of Direct Reports experiencing valid hardships. The latter should be given access to additional days if needed.

I take a couple caregiver days and a couple sick days. Make up for that Lost week of vacation.
It's free vacation days. I only take 10-12, not greedy about it.

Take it on Fri, Mon and Tues along with a Cruise and come back with the BEST tan ever!
It’s one of the only nice things we have honestly. We were encouraged to take it as long as we follow the policy.
If you are looking to be chosen for the layoff package, feel free to use all 15 days. I limit it to 3 days to not have a target on my back.
Hmmmm--is it just me or is there something shady about the caregiver-leave? feels like an experiment to see who will actually take it? lol, so many games and tricks in play nowadays...
*This is a COBC violation just to take caregiver leave.
Team Stankey's Stooges has spoken.
We’ll duh, did you just wake up? Caregiver leave is not new. When they took away a week of vacation they gave everyone 3 weeks of caregiver leave.
“ This is a COBC violation just to take caregiver leave.“
What does this statement even mean? No, it isn’t. It’s there for you to take it. We have been encouraged to use it. I am not talking about fraud, I am talking about legit use. Caring for elderly parent, taking them to doctors visits…same with spouse or other family member. In the past I would have used vacation hours for this. Now I use the paid caregiver leave.
