Ad-supported DIRECTV for FREE

Is offering ad-supported DIRECTV for free moments after selling off a violation of anti-competitive laws? Shouldn’t the millions of subscribers have been offered while we owned 90%? Smells like a scam… again. Some Private Equity Firm going to get a huge payoff that should be on our books. How bad is Stankey at being CEO?

"Do we get an employee discount for Directv Stream?"

Just like every other benefit, it will go away.

Step 1: Offer every one a free version (like other streamers already have been doing) to create “base”. Collect data on what free shows they interact with.
Step 2: Offer teasers to grow visitors and grow base.
Step 3: Leverage subscriber data to marketing companies.
Step 4: PRIVATE EQUITY FIRM SELLS VALUE ADDED COMPANY TO AT&T … AGAIN.

This is the same thing as "The Roku Channel" and all of the other "free" offerings. This isn't getting ESPN, Discovery, and all the other "cable" channels for free. You're making a big deal about nothing. And this won't make any money for DirecTV either, so its no big deal.

"Some Private Equity Firm going to get a huge payoff that should be on our books."

The only way the Private Equity Firm is making a huge payoff on DirecTV is by liquidating it. It's dying and this free service isn't going to do anything to bring it back to life. There's no big payoff in DirecTV or Dish.
