Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I’m torn about complying with the RTO

Long commute, additional daily expenses, horrible hub conditions, consequent lower productivity, all that makes me want to quit. But I’ve been with T for a while, severance would be decent, and I’m wondering about how long before I get booted in some layoff round. I’m not all that worried about finding another job fast. I have savings and a decent set of specific skills that someone will badly need, likely sooner than later. But I just don’t want to fall for attrition and leave for free.

Does anybody actually know people that were fired because they didn’t comply? I do know someone who is currently on a PIP for it. Immediately moved to 5 days in office, and noncompliance without approval will supposedly result in dismissal.

No reason to be torn, really. If you believe going into the office will negatively affect whatever metric is important to you, then go ahead and find another job. Most who have say they are happier and usually better paid. I'd do it sooner rather than later, though, because even $100k of severance (assuming you're a manager making up to 200k) is probably not worth the stress, unhappiness, and uncertainty. However, with layoffs becoming more widespread, your ability to jump ship may not be recouped in a year, or it may take longer to get a new position which would quickly mitigate the severance T offers to management. Put out feelers now, and if you get that bird in hand, I wouldn't keep your hand out waiting on severance.

But I'm not letting driving into an office make my decision. Did it before the pandemic, and I have no problem doing it again.

"Wow; cannot make up this stuff."

Typical AT&T a--hat. First, you attacked a concept, not on its content, but on the way it was delivered (it is ok to end a sentence with a preposition in an informal conversation). Then your rebuttal does not even reference the correct part of the conversation "to which your are objecting". Great job! You probably made all those errors since you were not in your AT&T supplied work space since you are useless everywhere else.

“ If you have to go into an office to be useful then you are the exact type of employee that ATT needs to get rid of.”

You will be gone long before me since you think that phrase is a complete sentence.

Wow; cannot make up this stuff. Thank you for revisiting the conversation and removing all doubt.

  • I am still with the company and will leave on my own terms.

Probably because you end a sentence with a preposition."

"AT&T didn’t cause inflation. Blame your current elected government."

I never said that AT&T caused inflation, but they sure as he-l made sure our salaries did not come close keeping up with inflation.

"Did you work here before 2019? Your pay has an only gone up since 2019"

Are you really that much of a d-mb mass! For 4 years since 2019 we have since historically high inflation and, on average, the company raises have been far below inflationary increases. Almost everyone, except the C-Suit of course, lost a significant amount of purchasing power because of the raises that did not keep up with inflation. So, to your point, pay has gone up relative to the previous year, but not relative to what my groceries, health care, education, gasoline, and most other necessities have. Nice try A-Hole.

You do what you feel is right for you. Just remember, this RTO and Relocation is not about collaboration . . . it is about getting employees off payroll. You will be rewarded accordingly.

"So, you have always been useless."

If you have to go into an office to be useful then you are the exact type of employee that ATT needs to get rid of. People like YOU are the reason C-Suite thinks the only competent employee is one that sits at a company owned property. Do all of us who can contribute effectively from anywhere . . . go into your office and STFU!

Remember when RTO rolled out and these douche bags-

Yes, and I worked from home full time

  • thought they were too important to have to worry about it??

Enjoy staying at home…..unemployed.

So, you have always been useless.

You just got to FEEL like you were special and essential.

Buh bye!

Do we really think severance will continue to remain as lucrative as it is now? I would not stick around if that’s what you’re hoping for.

Yes, and I worked from home full time. So much for your useless assessment.

Just about any major corporation you might work for is going to require actual work in an office.

No doubt this all su-ks! However, it’s gonna get worse in 2025. The Stink said we are going to go to 5 days a week in the office at this week’s employee group conference (EG). I would talk to ur boss about “volunteering” for the next wave of surpluses.

Just coffee badge and talk to your direct report about getting put on a surplus list if they’re a cool boss who would actually help you.

Good luck.

If you could find another job fast, I would do that. You could collect severance, maybe even take a month off of work, earn more (assuming next job will have a pay increase), and work for a company with a better environment all in one fell swoop. There’s really no reason to stay at AT&T.

You said you're marketable so why suffer under T?

Make them suffer under you.
Why quit when you can wait for a layoff and collect unemployment?
