Consultants telling executives everywhere to cut

Executives have no unique ideas. All listen to the same consultants and follow each others actions like sheep. Remind me why they are paid so much when they all just do the same thing?

Bloomberg article Shell employees voice their ire in company survey as CEO cuts jobs to drive profits:

Consultants are as incompetent and selfish as EMTEC employees.

We all need to start challenging this mindset. We need responsible capitalism. Not this selfish form we have now.

jnt+1uXY89UT You think it was not also consultants who sold the “high margin” bs strategy to management?

Executives hire consulting companies to compare the company to competitors. The execs probably already have a good idea what the answer will be and will give them an excuse to reduce costs in order to boost the stock price. And well let's face it, if the bulk of the work is resource plays, you don't need a large technical staff.

Consulting companies have a lot of experience with trimming commodity companies.
It's Exxon that was late to recognize this simple fact till the covid wake-up call. The high profit margin had been delusional, but in the end of the day, oil and gas is just commodity. XOM is not as special as it had fantasized

It’s always easier when you can say “that’s what the consultants said” or “every body else is doing it”

A lot of what made Exxon great was we did things our way. It was great until it didn’t work anymore. Now we’re just another generic company.

A good take on it here:

From the article:

“I’d challenge our board to come up with three tangible actions and take responsibility to make those happen,” another employee wrote. “What is the point to have team discussions? For our team it has been a waste of time.”

Sound familiar? Remember the culture survey discussions they made supervisors have and then we were supposed to somehow brainstorm as a team how we could make things better and enter it all into an online website? Clearly their consultants are having them do the exact same thing! How do we get differentiating results when we all just do the same thing?
