Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

80% of the employees at T are over 50

And ready to retire in the next 10 years.

Stankey trying to push them out early when all he has to do is give them 6 months pay.

Destroyed an entire company’s culture to achieve what could have been achieved with a minimal severance package.

I'd like to see the age break-down by bargained vs. management. Most management leave by about 60 in my location; it's the bargained employees that are older. You think management has a "you'll have to pay me to leave," mentality, well, hold their union beer...

I see minimal people over 60 thee days at my office unless they look good for their age. The last two folks on my floor volunteered in the recent round of layoffs. What office are you speaking of?

No level of keystroke metrics, VPN checks or badge swipes help with low morale and productivity. Anyone can sit at their desk for 8 hours like a plant but add minimal value. Unfortunately, we now see it all to often these days with co-workers non-responsiveness and without a sense of urgency to address issues etc. It is very frustrating for those of us who are motivated to do a good job and get things done.

T could have saved so much money, dysfunction and boosted morale (which is priceless) by offering anyone over 50, MR75 eligible, a package, perhaps a years salary to leave. Employees would have left, trained their replacements more than adequately and everyone would have been happy and not resentful. The vast majority of employees want to come to work and add value and in return they want their employer to value them. When a person does not feel valued as studies have shown their productivity unfortunately decreases and bad morale spreads like a virus.

The real question is, how many employees are over 60 or even 65 and have many, many years with this company? I'm curious about those numbers.

Well, you can certainly get a ballpark using the numbers from below. The workforce total at the end of 2023 was 149,9000, and 11% are Baby Boomers. Baby Boomers will all squarely be 60 by the end of 2024, so you don't even have to adjust to take out anyone who isn't at least 60. The only adjustment would be for those who've left since Jan 1.

So no more than 16,489 globally. No real reason to break that down much more. IMO. If the company provided more specific demographics, like how many are over 65, how many are 69+, it would give credence to suggestions of ageism.

I see wayyyyyyy too many crip keepers walking around.

Who knew T had gang affiliations. SMH. If you're going to use a reference, at least learn how to spell it correctly.

Seriously, if you are retirement eligible with 40 years of service, WTF are you still doing here?

I see wayyyyyyy too many crip keepers walking around. Go to greener pastures already. It’s over. Enjoy what left of your life before you fall ill and can’t enjoy any of your savings,

Stankey, please poll all of your employees to see who wants to leave and then let them go! Just give them what they want! It's a simple process and many employees that want to remain employed by T get to stay rather than stressing out the entire company!

“Under 50 and getting the axe because my location doesn’t align with collaboration.”
The real reason you are being terminated is due to being dead weight. Your manager rankings sealed your fate.

It’s because Mellenials and Gen Z don’t want to work. Someone has to do it.

You are full of sh-t. The numbers for 2023 are:
Percent Baby Boomers (Ages 58–76) 11%
Percent Gen X (Ages 42–57) 45%
Percent Gen Y (Ages 28–41) 32%
Percent Gen Z (Ages 17–27) 12%
https://sustainability.att.com/progress/corporate-responsibility-data

Not even statistically possible to get to 80% being over 50 from those numbers. Further breakdown from that data:

Percent 50 years old: 33.12%
https://sustainability.att.com/reports/reporting-frameworks/gri (GRI 405)

Will be interesting to see 2024 numbers will be. The Gen X and Millennial % are holding about the same, with Boomer numbers down 6& over the last 4 years and Gen Z up 5%.

Most of these have some type of countdown to retirement calculator visible on their desktop when sharing screens. Just kicking back making everyone else do their work. No wonder why they’re being targeted.

exec team wants stock price up and then they will leave, after ever $ is taken from the company. New employees join to get 2 years experience and leave. The 20% changes every month to replace those that now have a resume with experience.
Senior employees just try to survive until retirement.

I’m just surprised at how weak most people are. I would have expected to be reading the wrath of those that got laid off. What are they afraid of? Hang that dirty laundry out to dry so everyone can see it.

And they won't even offer me that while other people I know who are younger and don't want to leave (because they don't know better) are being pushed out for not being in a hub.
