US Commercial AVP Defunding Events

Ourrrrrr AVP continues to threaten to defund events cause no pipeline is created the day after the event. Ourrrrrr AVP wants to defund all events to include our popular Tech Days. He barks all the time but has no clue. He shows up at events but provides no value. We have to scramble to get him fake meetings to soothe is ego. Does anyone else have an AVP that wants to defund events and doesn’t understand Sales, Demand Gen, Funnel, etc.

Based on the numerous “r”s, most likely OP is referring to the Central AVP who is from Boston and is well known for not holding his ODs, RMs, and AMs accountable to enter pipeline into SFDC and likes to say he is not going to fund any more events if no pipeline is entered. Duh…. Have your AMs enter the pipeline. Not that hard. Stop barking that you are going to defund events when you know what needs to be done. It is called leading which he does not know how to do. He is a lousy leader that needs to be LRd.

Any AVP that threatens to defund events is on a power trip. Get over yourself and make your lazy AMs enter it into SFDC.

Pipeline is in fact created at these type of events because the first bucket in the meddpic process is Prospect.

Not how pipine works or marketing. They don't buy the day of event.thry buy when they have budget or business need . The event is marketing so they choose Cisco when that time comes. I do t buy a car when I see a commercial but they influence my purchase when it's time to buy a car. That is marketing 101

Your AVP is not a leader. Only disparages people about a number instead of leading people that has a domino effect of numbers. Sounds like the CCA AVP if I had to guess. There is a reason that area su-ks the last few years.

How do you think the AVP gets budget to fund events?

Yeah I don’t blame the AVP. As mentioned earlier people aren’t really about about Cisco anymore. Meraki was the only big thing for us and we’re struggling to innovate there now.

You have to get customers to show up and get a return for it to make sense

Cisco field customer/partner events were always a joke the last 5 years. Big money spent, virtual golf, tons of food, drinks, and very few customers show up. It is usually more than half Cisco people getting the free drinks and food. People just aren't excited about Cisco anymore. I remember the old days 10-15 years ago when there were tons of Cisco Press books at the bookstore and everyone wanted certifications. The sizzle is gone.

sounds like every AVP Ive worked with, all big hat no cattle, soft hands, loves to go under VPs desks, thats the way to exec VIP room, not hard work or actual experience.

Well to be fair demand generation events are a stupid waste of time. But so is trying to sell to tiny (aka commercial) customers.
