Is the secret formula "65"?

I joined Cisco at age 26, got LR'ed 19 years later when I was 45. Right or wrong on the LR doesn't matter anymore. But it's got me thinking, whatever decision criteria they use for every LR, is the "maximum tolerance" equal to 65? IE your real age PLUS years of service? Once you get to 65 then you're gone no matter what?

Anyone care to give their info so we can crowdsource the data? How old were you when you were LR'ed and how many years had you been working there?

71, 24.5 years of service. Lucked out as they didn't know I was planning on retiring within a few months. The severance came in very handy!

79 and going strong. I think it all comes down to being close to a solid revenue stream and a growing/relevant technology. Very rare will someone be let go when there is legit cash being made for the company in that growing/relevant technology space. Keep a solid/relevant skill in place and there will never be a worry as to where you will work.

OK, thinking about it some more, there must be a factor which is based on your grade. An older G12 probably is more likely to get booted automagically than an older G9 (just picking those as examples).

Just imagine if the formula still holds but its calculated as a percentage. So your combined (age+tenure) * Grade factor. (Just making all this up for fun btw).

So let's pretend the avg grade for your average sc-m/non-director is G9. So we get a scale: 6 = .25, 7=.5, 8=.75, 9=1, 10=1.25, 11=1.5, 12=1.75

So using me, if I was G12 and my numbers added up to 64, then 64*1.75 = 112%. I was a dead-man walking for sure.

So does that insane formula work for you?

(Of course there must be some hidden factor like "local Director loves me so reduce chances by 90%)

I can well imagine there's something as brutal as this kind of insane logic going on...
