Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Mid Market is going up in flames

I heard they are cutting all mid market in half! Including operations and COE… After they made people move to Dallas. The strategy set up by operations is not working and upper leadership wants operations to change asap to build a better strategy like IHX. Charlie sent a messsge to SM that his head was on the line with JVB. Charlie is acting like Angela at this point telling everyone they will get fired. Angela is running our market with busy work. Had anyone else heard this. Bring back Shelly

i'm surprised to see mid market and platinum wash outs end up at Verizon, TMo, Lumen/former Centurylink or at the local cable co (Comcast, Spectrum/Charter), where they will last 1 to 1.5 years before being exposed. Rarely will any of these washouts last more than 3 years.

This does not make sense. In sales people keep leaving or get cut and they keep hiring.

I have been working as tech for the past week in the gulf. No quota relief no need just told to work as a tech. My AVP had tried to get answers I have seen the email. Gonterman and Kristi will not do anything. My AVP does not even have say anymore. I’m about to have covid until strike is over.

The tooling and compensation teams are the weak links. Reporting is never correct. Compensation can’t get a message out. Whoever designed the new ordering flows has zero business in that role. It seems like a bunch of college hire people that have promoted to their own level of incompetence. After firing them all, complete brain drain, the company should just start over. Most of what they manage doesn’t work any way. Then they blame sales for not reporting it. BS. It’s been reported for over a year with nothing done about it.

The only thing that makes sense is a change is coming so the company is willing to let these id--ts stay over these departments because why fix it.

The plans are part of the plan. More and more headcount to be cut, it is always easier to simply not backfill than surplus. If lowering headcount numbers have to surplus actual people, then newer ones cost less to send away. Teams and roles will be consolidated and so on, which will reduce the leadership and manager spots as well.

Mid Market will not be recognizable by end of 2026, as it is seen today. Lots don’t have to find another job by tomorrow, but you will see or have already seen anyone well connected in that organization trying to slip in somewhere else before there is no more room. And the room is getting tight, this company is not expanding with employees, only partners contractors and alliance channel providers. No growth in wholesale, global, enterprise, public sector, consumer. They are all shrinking.

The regional providers and cable providers will be in the best spot to win business and probably be the best places for a similar sales jobs other than joining an SP, but will have to sift through commercial accounts they can service vs which accounts have to find a national network provider for their needs.

It's been incredible to watch "leadership" find increasing ways to put people on "improvement plans":

  • bottom quartile VAS
  • bottom quartile overall
  • certain number of months without dedicated

It's clear the "strategy" isn't to drive sales, but for managers to explain their poor performance on sellers who they are churning like butter. Then they get to blame the new hires getting up to speed on their low numbers. Rinse and repeat.

Yet the leaders in place are never held accountable. Like I said, remarkable.

Angela is ridiculous she has never delivered a results and her markets perform the best when fraud can be Ran. She keeps a few a-s kissers around to make her feel good. She has a trail of people she wrongfully fired SR RA DP. She hates men of color

Does anybody actually know what Angela’s job is? Does Charlie’s staff call just consist of her and then she spread the word to the GM’s? She used to hitch hike with Shelly every where she went. Nothing says your job isn’t justifiable like when you’re one of two in the country. Your peer passes away and they don’t backfill their role for 2 years. But yet you remain employed competing against vacant. Now she follows Charlie around. A 400 thousand dollar Chief of Staff… Only at T

BAT is going up in flames . Fraud isn’t cutting it anymore and the “top” sellers ran out of friends and accounts to make up.

Reading these posts is just insane. Everyone should act as if they’re fired and go on a 100% job search. It may seem unfair but how do you justify hanging on when the company doesn’t care? What does success look like? Is there anyone who has given any indication of what these business units will look like and how they will operate in the end? If not, do yourself a favor and find a better place to work.

This is why most people from AT&T are unemployable outside in the real world. Just reading this thread with each poster trying to outdo the other with obscure AT&T jargon gives me a headache. Off to the glue factory with you fools

The long term strategy here is a small number of lower paid account managers, more TBR pay or contract renewals focused, just trying to manage customer items. Not really sales people trying to grow or hunt more in MM. Then the SP channel is given full reign and access to hunt and grow that space as much as they can. A lot of changes are coming soon that will all better support piece by piece moving to that model entirely over the next 2 years. As for the comment on bringing back Shelley, ironic as that’s where MM is mostly moving too. But a he’s not coming to MM, all the MM accounts are moving to her organization as her SP channel will be handling almost everything sales related for that segment soon. It won’t be good for customers and won’t be good for the few employees left. Only good temporarily for balance sheets, and potentially very good for AT&T competitors as their contracts and commitments with AT&T expire. AT&T is fine losing 25% of these accountable if they can eliminate almost all of the employees associated with handling this segment, that’s still a win in the balance sheet. Don’t be foolish and think the numbers and approximate financial theories have not been run. Now what if they lose 50% of the accounts and revenue? The math changes some, but they know it is amazing how much so many customers will put up with before changing providers. They scream and whine, but not many walk away and cancel it all.

Charlie should get fired. BAT is at less than 50% YTD. Not a single SM in wirelines or wireless is at 100% YTD.

Absolute shame.

How kind of them to not hold us accountable to completed sales while it’s physically impossible to complete sales…. To whom should we praise for this miracle….. But you’re gonna hold us to issued and VAS…. How much of VAS is tied to an INSTALLED internet connection or an installed APBA remember no na--d ports…. So I should sell them office at hand with no internet to work off of for a month plus…. Comcast will come out tomorrow while we are out close to 4 weeks and counting and they are eating our lunch right now. The fact that we have leadership in place that are quick to send emails about I’m gonna write you all up if you are in the 4th quartile but yet our whole world gets flipped upside by no fault of our own. We no longer can make the money we rely on to feed our families and pay our bills….. Where are they no where to be found…. Have they hosted a call nope… Have they done anything to reassure the field nope… They are hiding behind a Mid Market vanity Mid Market email address having a communications major tell us to control what we can control. How about you do your job PIVOT and find a strategy to get us paid. Flip to pay on issue for 60 days wipe out charge backs until the end of year because they are surely coming when these dedicated install dates are missed and Comcast is knocking on their door. But no instead y’all are quiet as ever. It’s embarrassing. Simply put you’re cowards not leaders.

Angela is a joke period. In 2013 She was running ACQ. There was 76 of us to start the year, that CU-T had us down to 36 by November. Fired them all for numbers. She had no clue what she was doing then and has no clue what she is doing now. Charlie has been typical Charlie. Has moved from Segment to Segment over the last Decade and finally will soon to be like Kelly King(forced to retire). Only a matter of time before the whole company falls apart as all leadership is useless. You want real numbers... than 100% White space and cut the dam price down on ADI and for god sakes bring back US based project managers. Also Nobody wants to pay $400 for a Dam 10M on net when Zayo and Cogent are giving this stuff away for nothing.

Why not add mobility to the plate. Fiber sellers already have to play the roles of checking marketing’s boxes with those awful MQO’s, check the SF activity box for leadership, seller, sipper, quote builder, manager, SEL (Reporting is trash daily have to update leadership on sales MTD) SSE (Cloud Voice specialists essentially gone, WiFi overlays let go) install coordinator, chargeback disputer, retention, COE ticket submitter and if you don’t respond fast enough they close it or call you 10 times in a row on teams…. Did I miss anything? Idk might as well give me a voice and data target. While you are at it just give us the 7-7 contingency hours and 13 days on 1 day off. That’s the only way there’s remotely enough time in the day to do our jobs as it is.

If they cut half you only need half of operations too. Makes sense then everyone can role under enterprise new AVP. Goodbye all mid market svp and vp

Bolton apparently told mobility SMs their average of 8 VGA per seller on a target of 18 was unacceptable and to fire anyone producing less than that.

Expect MM to transition to a converged model where sellers offer both wired and wireless products and about half the sellers are cut. It will also likely be wayyyy heavier focused on acquisition. Too many people are farming green space which is ripe for fraud like rip and replace and false churn.

Wait, who is going to Dallas within operations and COE? COE's billing has already been cut up in HALF - it takes ages to get anything done. Some operations people shouldn't even be in their position to be honest - they're supposed to help but don't even know modern items - some SELs ask sellers for help, when it should be the other way around. Honestly, Midmarkets isn't going anywhere right now and it is super concerning. Coming from someone in mid-markets, it just seems like no one is being honest and truthful about what is happening.
