Has to be real / in-person ofrhow else would so many individuals be able to show off their shiny badges with all the pronouns and feel 'so great' about themselves for doing so?

The best was Ms. TikToc flaming Cisco a couple weeks ago over LR then gleefully posting from GSX this week on Cisco’s dime.
How does this person not get LR’d?

Cisco used to have the best sales reps in the industry but sadly now they are the weakest in the industry as the good ones left for competitors

Dear commenters, without a motivated sales team how do you expect Cisco to make enough money to pay your salary every month?

You think in this day and age when the Aristas and Junipers of the world are coming for our business, Cisco just simply “sells” itself? I understand GSX is an overkill, the money spent is probably obscene, but hate the system, not the sales folks. We’re working as much as you are, and are bringing in revenue that pays all of us. Keep your bias aside and try and think rationally or if you have the talent to go do a better job, try interviewing for the sales team. Some of you don’t see it, but it takes skill to sell something to someone. Easy peasy to sit behind a hidden pseudonym and spew hate. Come join us? Then we’ll see how well you do when you have to defend Cisco in a challenging market and sell.

Cisco sales people need to be coddled and told how wonderful they are.

Without that, they simply wouldn't be motivated to make plan and bring home those massive commissions.

Declining sales = NO PERKS

simple answer it was already pre-allocated funds so we would lose money if we cancelled it

additionally it is what it is but their is an expectation a seller that you get perks like sales conferences to meet & greet your team for culture purposes, have a good meal and so on.

as a sales leader I'm not saying it's cheap or the best use of funds but it does help with team morale and getting them fired up for the new year

They were years ago.

Sales people are coin operated and anything that interferes with that takes an immediate subordinate position.

What happened was people would log in, let it run and go off and do other things and miss the bulk of the messaging.

Then Cisco switched over to have "hubs" where sales people had to go and sit in a room and watch a streamed session. So you had sales people traveling to, say, RTP, sitting in a room and having to rack up expenses for travel and lodging. Additionally you had to deal with the time zone differences (east coast folks had looooong days).

All the while, sales would complain that "We didn't get to go to LV and celebrate our year!!!!".

Eventually, Chuck broke down and sent everyone back out to Vegas which usually involves one or more of the following or something similar:

  • someone royally tying one on and end getting sent home to await execution for being stupid (like soiling a fountain and then jumping into it and swimming to the other side to avoid security who just walked around the fountain, now wet and caught or dousing your director with beer after calling him something insulting)
  • running up expense accounts with $200 Japanese imported waygu/kobe beef hamburgers served with fries cut from potatoes grown by Tibetan monks above the tree line on the northern slopes of Mt Everest then hand sliced by Cordon Bleu trained chefs and served with ketchup made with heirloom tomatoes grown on the slope of Mt Aetna and bottled in by cloistered nuns in a convent with roots dating back to the 5th Century and all washed down with ridiculously overpriced and graded wine or imported beer.
  • Hiring (on the corporate Amex) a "companion" for the evening, night or week.
  • Hitting the golf course at $250/round

then lather, rinse, repeat the next day.

Great level of frugality ain't it?

A Narcissist like CR needs to hear adulation from his screaming fans (aka sycophantic employees) in the absence of such respect and adulation from the IT industry who thinks he is a BS charlatan and a greasy car salesman. GSX is the perfect avenue for his narcissism.

Sales is a person-to-person experience, and it's important to present yourself as successful. Think about it—have you ever seen a top real estate agent driving a Honda? Some people excel at in-person selling because they know how to create the right atmosphere. Imagine a Trump virtual rally :)
