Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Reality Setting In?

The company is playing chess while CWA is playing checkers. The union sounds defeated in their last update, employees are already whining about not having any money, and the house of cards is falling. We knew AT&T didn’t care about its customers or its workers well in advance of this round of bargaining. The problem is that CWA thought they were immune to the ruthless lies and mo--nic decisions being made at the highest levels of leadership. CWA laughed about RTO and constant management surplus, but the script has flipped and the company now has you in its crosshairs. How does that make you feel? Do your stewards really believe cookouts and dance parties are helping matters or are they simply trying to keep everyone brainwashed so they hold the line? You are witnessing the systematic dismantling of the CWA at the hands of corporate tyrants he-l bent on destroying AT&T. You are no different than the “management trolls” you reference in your posts. The problem is that your union made you believe that you were untouchable, and that was a lie. CWA only cares about collecting your dues, just as the company only cares about reducing its debt. Nothing else matters, and the union is late to the party. Collect your strike pay, use your emergency benefits, and we will see how long you hold the line. CWA isn’t the Teamsters run by Jimmy Hoffa. It is nothing more than a piggy bank you feed from every paycheck, lining the pockets of people who can’t even be bothered to mention you when given the national spotlight. You are “human capital”.

CWA thought they were invincible and had convinced the membership that they could handle this round of collective bargaining. Their lies and corruption are now on full display. You are dollar signs to CWA brass, just as you are nothing but a burden to the company. Welcome to the AT&T that management has dealt with for the last several years. Nothing has changed except for your perception. It’s the equivalent of waking up and realizing you exist in the matrix. The sooner you come to terms with it, the easier it will get.

You will turn on one another. The dam will break. It already is, and CWA is in damage control and panic mode. They don’t know what to do, and that is exactly what the company wants. Just as you’ve always told managers: “If you don’t like it, quit. You are useless anyway.” Take your own advice. Contingency workers may be miserable, but they are getting paid. You aren’t.

Are you finally ready to accept the Stankey as prime? The pure consolidation of equity and truth? Have you learned the error of your ways? For we are light and knowledge. You must wither and perform flagellation before we commit ourselves to being your humble masters.

had plenty of time to save for the strike like the majority of union members

Sounds like the union never really intended to bargain in good faith if the members were saving up for so long. If one had started saving in June when negotiations began, that probably wouldn't have been a lot of acorns, so just when did most seem to know that a strike was inevitable? Also sounds like perhaps the new guys might not have saved because they believed that the union would be able to bargain, and be able to do the give and take necessary.

The main point CWA is bargaining at the table is Union. Saving their own A$$, and selling ours. T had plans to remove union representation for new hires Jan1, 2025. Of course current employees would have Union Representatives until there were no more Union employees left. Aim to reduce union power or all together, even starting small scale with a state by state plan. The union will sell us out to save themselves. I never felt the Union worked on our behalf, strike hurting CWA pockets, what will they agree to to get us back to work?

The only way the union and workers come back as a winner, is if a hurricane hits the Southeast, that is what the CWA management team is hoping for, just like 1983 with Hurricane Alicia...brought back everyone at that time or it would have been much much longer than 22 days.

Just as you’ve always told managers: “If you don’t like it, quit. You are useless anyway.”

Nah, not bargained for members telling you that. It's your closest peers telling you that. They want YOU to quit to save their own jobs -- lookin around, lookin at each other. Who's next?

You.

This company is telling you something you already know.

Knock, knock.

Who's there?

You know who.

Why, it's the grim reaper.

Whew, awful long OP to just say, Momma I want to come home! It’s too hot, I’m tired and scared 😪. Speak to your leadership or as some of your fellow peers have suggested in other threads, get a job accommodation. You are just experiencing a very small taste of work life of a bargained employee. The exception is, you or the dispatch team gets to cherry pick your task, won’t be forced to complete, doubled up with another peer and can return early.

When you turn in tonight, don’t forget to buy some cheese for the w(h)ine. 😭

Just as you are are nothing but a burden to the company. WOW, it went from 2nd class to a burden to the company. Way to go coach, that pep talk converts them every time. Surely the company is not paying you for such intellect. If any burned out management wants this strike to conclude you might want to keep your spokesman in the closet.

How this movie ends...

* SPOILER ALERT *

Members lose their health coverage in addition to having lost their paycheck. Most come to the realization they've been led down the wrong path. A few begin attacking their fellow members. The CWA Bargaining Team folds and accepts the offer made by the Company. The CWA tells members they forced the company to accept their demands. Everyone cheers. The screen slowly fades to black with the company negotiating team grinning like the cheshire cat. Credits roll.

THE END

“ I’m going back to work on Monday! Agreement or not.”

Don’t know why you felt the need to post your personal decision here but ok, it’s a cry for help. Your post has the appearance of being disingenuous and disjointed. You never mentioned speaking to your local officers about medical options, you also had plenty of time to save for the strike like the majority of union members. Appears to be another troll but if not then good luck in your future job search. Just remember, no person is an island unto themselves. When one door closes, another will open!

Re; going back to work, Your getting up early to spread dissension, too bad your contractual interpretation is 3rd rate. You might want to consult legal in order to sound somewhat intelligent about matters you know nothing about.

I’m going back to work on Monday! Agreement or not. I’m not going to risk losing my insurance over a bunch of rich folks. I’m not sacrificing my health over it. Sorry guys! And yes, I’m looking for a new job. After getting laid off without notice, no unemployment no severance, no strike pay and etc, it’s time to go. Peace out!

If there was true value in the union membership as perceived by T, there would be no need to strike. The reality is that there is not and frankly never will be. Nothing more than an employee I’d that can be replaced by a new one at any time without missing a beat.

Why so anti-union? Nothing is perfect. But their collective bargaining gives them a seat at the table with leadership. On my first day in 2001, the HR person welcomed new hires and explained that the company is “neutral” when it comes to bargained for and management labor. As a manager, I put in the time to understand bargained for roles, perspectives and challenges and worked within the confines of the agreement. Millions of Americans depend on AT&T for connectivity. This strike is temporary, but it’s important that we remain neutral and not let tensions rise. If it was an option, I think I would join a union for L1/L2 to have a team negotiate for fair treatment. Talented friends across the US are losing their jobs because they are older. We lose their skills and we have to start all over again with people who will quit due to the toxic environment. So, stay neutral, as a professional union like teachers, actors or professors might be in your future.
