Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What’s the latest Layoff and D3 Bargaining News?

Been incommunicado since the weekend, tubing, skiing and fishing at the lake. I saw someone mentioned wave 2 layoffs, what organizations and numbers?

I heard more CP were being called up, any truth to that? Has there been anymore CP accidents, hope not don’t want to see anyone injured? I just caught up on the bargaining reports, appears more of the same with slight movement. Back to the picket line tomorrow, I have enough fillets for a fish fry just have to find out what day is my turn to cook. Thanks for any information and see you at the line. In Unity!!

Union seems quiet today after a week of raging here. Did you all sleep in late?

Spent the morning listening to their radio show and prepping for their townhall tonight. Except for the guy on twitter who says he's apparently been drinking too much and waking up with hangovers during his time off.

“The top 3 d-mbest statements made by overpaid striking union workers:”
Those same individuals work like they picket. They claim to be hard workers, but are actually slugs. They claim to be striking with their brothers, but don’t take it seriously either. Just consummate losers that the unions continue to protect.

“That's what I'm saying. We were assigned whether we wanted it or not.”

If you need schedule changes then speak to your strike capt. or job steward. It isn’t draconian or set in stone. People still have vacations planned, Dr appts, etc..

“ It’s not party time you DMF’s. It’s serious for everyone involved.”

Aww, you’re frustrated. Paid company sycophants encouraged us union slugs to strike for months. They must of knew that the company planned on bargaining in bad faith. They said we wouldn’t strike, just do it already, all talk, no hat and many other statement’s.

No whining now that it’s happened, the union didn’t want to strike but after nearly 3 months of trying to bargain, they were out of options because of company negotiators bad faith bargaining and impasse so, ULP charges were filed and ultimately a strike.

If they aren’t being scabs, what’s the problem? They saved up enough cash to do it. Holding a picket sign shows solidarity as much as these guys not crossing the line. God forbid these people try to keep morale up during this sh-t show.

“Weird. We have mandatory picket times. Didn't even get to pick the days or the time slots. Wouldn't have been able to take multiple days to take an RV to the Smokies.”

We have mandatory amount of weekly hours in order to get paid and a AM/PM shift but don’t have to be there every day or days. I’ve been on the line nearly every day since strike so I’ve put in more than enough hours. Will be back on the line when I return, we have a lot of people at our location so it’s not an issue. We aren’t getting paid by the hour or dictated to like the CP team. One actually doesn’t have to show up at all if you don’t want strike pay but that’s counter intuitive for what we are trying to accomplish. Still not crossing the line so, to the Smokies I go!

I read the story about the managers daughter who worked late on the first wire tech install she was loaded that morning as a new employee. The customer wanted it completed that evening if possible. The wire tech got help from her co- workers and first level manager and completed the Texas install. They found her the next morning passed away in her car. We should all hopefully learn from that incident. RIP

We going to take advantage of the strike too, driving our RV to the Smokies for some R&R. May even have a day at the Casinos on the way back

Company paid insurance is still valid for strikers until Sept. 1 they have an option to pay for cobra or the union will pay for chronic or emergency issues, best to contact the local union for options and clarity.

“ Would his health benefits or workman's comp be valid?”

“ This would be true if you had a contract. But you don’t which is why there are a thousand contractors here that are doing your job.”

That’s ok, on a ULP strike, we go right back to our jobs, can’t be permanently replaced and they company will probably be paying twice because union can sue for back pay due to the ULP. Contractors will be gone. Until then just chilling and enjoying the time off. We are employees so we understand that the customers need to be taken care of during this time, just don’t want to see anymore serious injuries and accidents than have already happened.

I’m a second class Wire Tech, sounds like you had a nice time at the lake. One day I hope to save enough money to afford nice toys. Unfortunately I can’t afford those things at our wages, with inflation we can barely make it week to week. Hope there is a significant raise or I’ll be forced to seek other employment. Working on Cisco certification and wanting to go back to school but the work/life balance at AT&T su-ks so, unable at this time. It’s why the union is fighting hard for us younger employees outside the Core contract, in addition to everyone else’s issues. Tired of having to clear the load everyday and missing out on family time.

“When AT&T agrees to let the new hires for our job titles join the union beginning in 2025 and onward, they will settle”

What are you talking about? The union, job titles, descriptions, family of skills and collective bargaining is already established. The company cant just hire people to work in established titles and say they can’t join the union. D3 contract has article 14 (jurisdiction of work) the company can’t contract out skilled telecomm work and supervisors aren’t allowed to work on it either. Only unskilled work like, line assist, flagging and digging can be done by contractors.

You appear to be uninformed and from another district or a company troll. Quit posting misinformation, please!

As others have said, it’s been fairly quiet from the bargaining teams, I take that as a good sign. Hopefully the mediator is getting them to a compromise that satisfies both. Otherwise, it goes to the next step. I personally, like a lot of other bargained employees posting, am enjoying the down time and R&R.

As far as layoffs it’s the same, layoffs are happening regularly but not usually in big enough numbers at any one location to trigger the Warn Act. Only people in the know from an org with layoffs can speak to total numbers.

When AT&T agrees to let the new hires for our job titles join the union beginning in 2025 and onward, they will settle. That’s what the strike is about, why we haven’t received updates (except the same generic one everyday) and why it was hush, hush at the DNC. How many of you actually care about what new hires get? Crickets.

Heard there were 1000 layoffs in Leggs org. one location mentioned was San Ramon, unsure of other locations or if those numbers are accurate. Maybe someone else can confirm.

I understand your frustration but life still goes on, I choose my attitude everyday. I’m not happy with what is happening at AT&T either but doesn’t stop me from enjoying life and I don’t dwell on things I’m unable to control. I chose not to be the wet blanket everyone dislikes and avoids.

Silence, you will soon be assimilated into the quarter scale pay grades. You will get nothing, and be grateful you have a internet connection to assert your authority over lesser employees.

Don’t know about any layoff numbers since I’ve also been picketing. We had a couple of office workers show up at our work location on Monday, they aren’t happy with HR to say the least. Can’t blame them, said they weren’t on the contingency team but received an email one day with instructions to show up here (GA) for refresh training. After that they will be dispatched out later this week, must of been former techs 🤷‍♂️

We going to take advantage of the strike too, driving our RV to the Smokies for some R&R. May even have a day at the Casinos on the way back and take in some shows at Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg. Love the mountains! Fight for more in 24!

Like the man said, kinda quiet on both sides. There have been some foolish posting and some CP anxiety posting but that's to be expected. The layoffs are in totally different orgs and there is much unhappiness amongst the non represented. Be strong.
