When too many people hope for a layoff, the layoff doesn’t come. Use reverse psychology and say you hope there are no layoffs and then that’s when they will happen.
Please be aware it's not a safe time to sit for months before grinding on finding a job. I know people who have been stuck in layoff he-l for over 6 months.
There are many people hoping a package is made available when the axe falls, for just that reason… 2-3 months off before starting a new adventure. Seriously, Chevron was a good company to work for but even our CEO has stated, more than once, ‘this is a dying industry’. There’s no fault in hoping for a soft landing…
