Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Cisco Work-from-home employees hardly work

No wonder Cisco is laying off. They obviously don’t monitor their work from home employees. Gardening, exercising, running out to stores…..heck I’d love a job like that!

Spent the entire summer traveling with the family…as long as my cell phone was connected, I was “working”. Put in a solid hour a day… this is an amazing gig.

OP got chopped years ago, most likely. He/she wishes he/she was still on the Cisco easy milking train. Move on, Cisco does not want you back.

Total BS, I am a remote Cisco employee and I am working a minimum of 60 hours a week, most of the time much more than this. I average 4 maybe 5 hours sleep a night if I am lucky. I totally recent whoever posted the cr-p as they don’t know what the he-l they are talking about.

I am vacationing in Thailand right now for 2 weeks and all is good. I check my emails and join calls from my cellphone. Sometimes I do this while laying on the beach sipping on a margarita with a bikini-clad chic beside me. I bank my PTO hours and they are almost maxed out. If I get LR'ed, it will be a great payday for me. I used to do a side gig but it was too much stress. Now I just chill and enjoy life. YOLO is my new strategy.

Not what many on this site want to admit, but the majority of employees goof off working part time at home which justifies why they decided to sacrifice their career staying at sinking ship Cisco instead of joining the many growth companies that are hiring

It depends on your work ethic. I am hourly, WFH & work 8+ hours every single day; I am not a flake. For exempt employees, the company's culture has always been 'it doesn't matter how many hours you work, as long as your work is done'. Most exempt employees work >8 hours/day.

If that is the case of your team - i. e. happening around you, then your manager is not doing the job. Work remotely means - you physically remote but still be available like you are in office and get scheduled jobs done on time. If you are going be away (appointment, run errand, etc.) longer, then message the team to be aware. Anything "step out" over 3 hours should become half day off. Those are the rules many groups ran with - at least when I was at CISCO. If your boss left you alone like that: either he/she is not doing his/her job or you have been selected...

Check-in is actually good for teams like Sales/Marketing where you are on the road and not able to talk to your manager often. For many development team, manager talked with team members all the time. Again, that was when I was at CISCO. You only need 5 min or less to do a check-in weekly. Unless you are not working and have nothing to "check-in" about...

I get more done in an hour that you do all day flipping those burgers 🍔. Whose fault is that?

Cisco hires adults, we should be trusted to manage our time without monitoring leading to micro management. Are we expected to have a full 9-5:30s worth of work every day?

If I’m expected to be on a call without any input, why should that stop me from exercising or going to the shop while listening?

I get my work done and simultaneously have time to do my laundry. Can you not time manage or multi task?

The office has more distractions than benefits for me. It’s also GSX and new year so things are very quiet. If anything, the flexibility of working at Cisco is a reward for those hardworking enough to be hired and kept on through the LRs.

Even the CEO, VPs and world leaders join calls while exercising or multi tasking so if anything, we’re doing by their example.

When I was in the office, people talked and chatted all the time about non-work issues, a group of us walked to the coffee shop, took long lunches, what's the difference?

Come to office more often does not help to avoid LR. Your pay matters.

This is absolutely true they kind of force people indirectly to come to office atleast in our BU for 4 days a week people oblige out of fear of LR everyone knows HR in Cisco is useless any complaint against management will get you a ticket for next LR

No one thinks being remote or working in office everyday is in equation for LR. OP should open a HR case to get answers.

I have noticed that people that come into the office are favored over others that don't. Seems to be against the People Plan and the Hybrid Work Deal. Check yourself....

Yes, I work with them.

There are two kinds. One is that webex status is always green, but replies a couple of hours later, meaning they are using these mouse mover devices. The other kind has no shame; they are always 50 minutes away, and when they join a meeting, they will join from their cell phone.
