Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

CWA Strike Benefits

As of the last department of labor filing in May 2024, CWA had 478 million dollars invested, most of that coming from the Strike Fund.

CWA is asking for wage increases, from AT&T, to at least make up for inflation. However, CWA is giving us 300 bucks a week to strike. We need to also demand from CWA that they increase this 1970s strike benefit to make up for inflation.

CWA you need practice what you preach and increase the strike benefit. There is plenty of money to go around.

“Forgot to add T had a $30B profit, and they have a working relationship with CWA. Who needs to practice what they preach?”

The difference is the labor unions are “non-profit” organizations.

A corporation (with shareholders investing in it) is supposed to earn a profit.

If T doesn’t give to all union demands it’s accused of not bargaining in good faith. It’s quite funny.

I said something similar before, too. To union, "good faith" means "just agree to everything we demand!!!".. So I guess, let's ask you, the union guys, are you negotiating in good faith? Yeah? Then go ahead and agree to everything the company offers. That's your own vision of the "good faith" it seems, so how about it?
Hypocrites.

CWA won’t pay out any strike pay until the workers have been on strike for two weeks. Most strikes in recent history have only lasted a week or less so the workers don’t get paid strike pay. The $300/week after two weeks is an insult. It’s hard to tell who gives the workers the shaft the most, ATT or CWA.

Yup, plenty of money to go around. $470m compared to $30B. You guys using that fuzzy math again. That's like saying 104% productivity is failing.

Heh. Glad to see some of you waking up to the bs that is the union. When I was represented and dealing with Draconian attendance carp, the union was there, doing nothing, saying nothing.. just a bump on a log with a notebook. I stopped my dues and told them to get rekt that same week.

They are using the interest from our strike fund investments to subsidize the bloated payroll from the National Union.

The Union should be prioritizing it's members. If CWA can't afford it's staff, then it must right size.

We need to bring the message to the National Executive Board, raise the strike fund to maintain the picket line.

We are for workers rights as a union we aren’t monolithic, leadership can vote for who they want, same for members. They can endorse all they want but a large majority are conservatives or independents. Same for the UAW, their President even admits that majority of his members are conservatives and independents.

Good try at creating division but won’t happen. We all are united on fair compensation, work rules and safety.

“ You guys realize that in 1983, there was no competition and people with no service couldn’t just dump us for Comcast, right?”

Talk to the company about that your concern. You realize we are much more than DT and internet. Core is also the backbone for all wireless operations including competitors and many other kinds of circuits for govt. business, other carriers, emergency services, military, residential, international transport across oceans etc...

“We are still staying on strike whether it gets addressed now or later but I agree it is an issue, my understanding the fund was started up after the 1983 strike, prior to that people were on their own. So these appear to be 80’s wages and as you stated, have not been adjusted for inflation.”

If AT&T would bargain in good faith none of this would be of interest. Of course the strike fund is peanuts compared to the net profits of the company, they number in the billions.

I’ve been asking about this for a few years but it needs to be taken up at the national level. It’s our money because a little out of each union members check goes into the strike fund. Now is the right time to have that conversation, everyone should be asking their local president to address it on their next zoom call with D3 VP Honeycutt and National President Claude Cummings.
