Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Have you ever been ranked by someone in your CL or lower? Not good.

Years ago I was always ranked and rated by supervisors with higher CLs than myself. It was good because they were not in competition with me. That all changed a few years ago for the worst. I was knocked down because I was a threat to the supervisors. My pay was a lot higher than the supervisor ranking me. I believe they were mad at the fact I made so much more money than they did. This particular supervisor ki-led the careers of several employees including myself. When we complained to the supervisors manger we were told it was a fair system and nothing was wrong. These younger lower CL supervisors were more than happy to pip and get rid of higher paid employees. I feel like this is the normal for exxon now and it stinks.

I once had a Department Manager that saw me as a threat because my knowledge and experience in our field far exceeded his.

He dropped me as far as possible in the ranking back when there were limits. A manager in a different department transferred me and tried to protect me from that id--t in future rankings. It was obvious what that insecure id--t was doing but nobody stopped him.

Yes they provide the assessment ie f-c king of myself. So they do have an input and can withhold good feedback and focus on meaningless s hit. The only reason they are better than me is they can fire without a thought. They will do what ever the bosses tell them to do without question. They know nothing about the technical aspects of the work. There was a tour of a lab that I built up capability in. The supervisor talked as if they built it themselves and no mention of my hard work. I am not impressed with any supervisor I have met at exxon as there are all yes men and women. They are all driven by greed for money and power. I know more in the hemorrhoid in my a ss then they do in their entire body. As far as better than me remember the saying about ones companies trash is another s treasure. I have my exit planned and consulting for service companies that value the technical expertise I can provide. I could not and would not be able to perform the supervisor duties. I was asked once and refused so I stayed a SME or advisor.

You have it backwards. First your supervisor with the same CL does not rank you. They only provide the assessment. Second if you make more money than your supervisor at the same CL you have been there much longer than they who presumably were put there of the perception that they were better than you. Third, you never compete with them anyway. Because of the point above, those in the ranking discussion have already put the supervisor and other HIPOs above you. It is not something discussed in the meeting. The question is just irrelevant.

It never works out well when a group, or someone posing got a group goes to the supervisors manager.

All I’m seeing is buddies being taken care of. If you are not in a protected age you are a target. The upper middle management is looking the other way worried about their vacations and stocks. I see no silver lining or someone coming to save you.

That’s why you see supervisors and managers with high rankings off the back of their staff who they rank low. It makes no sense how the supervisor can be ranked so high relative to their team. So many young supervisors in controllers and tax who can destroy their competition to make the slot for themselves.
