I manage a team that's spread out in 7 locations..I go in and I'm in zoom calls. Everyone else around me is in zoom calls. And when we are not, we have actual coding work to do. I get the point of physicaly meeting someone. In small doses it's great. But required 2 weeks is counter to our teams pre covid culture. We used to go in once or twice a week to do all our in person meetings. The rest of the time we could do deep work. However, this rule does not let managers figure out what works for their situation.
I get it - some people have worked on site for 20-30 years. So they think that demanding flexibility is akin to being spoiled. But the world isn't like it was 20-30 years ago. The nature of work has changed, the nature of how the company is organized has changed, our customers and what thwy expect has changed.
If some people want to go in every day, more power to them. If on aggregate there are people mulling around in cafeteria and coffee stations, maybe leadership will get off our back and let the rest of us focus on writing code.
At the end maybe we can focus on what actually matters. As John Wooden said - "Never mistake activity for achievement".

I do apologize for my previous comments, to the shift workers impacted by the lack of parking, that’s messed up and I’m sorry. FREC apparently assured leadership for months that they had the situation under control.

To everyone else though, salaried workers who should be in for regular business hours, you should be showing up by 9 and not missing days and days of dynamic work. I mean, I don’t care what you do, but if the company you work for is asking that you come in 2 weeks a month, can you not come in those 2 weeks and show up on time?

HILARIOUS how people are saying “just go in early”. You know what I would NEVER do when I was a phone rep??? That’s right go in before 10 am for my noon shift. Some people are so out of touch with reality and just want to complain about people stating facts, yes that’s also complaining… but going in early is NOT a solution for everyone.

You could take your calls from the cafeteria and stand in line for the buffalo chicken as soon as you get in the office at 6 am. They will need lunchroom attendants for the lines.

Actually they removed the part of the FaQs saying managers can’t tell you to make up time and in fact many managers are requiring that, which I’m sure Hr allows managers to do at their discretion. They used to not allow it. But it will affect your bonus and review if you don’t.

I think a lot of you are operating from the assumption that there’s a place for all of us in the evolved business model and therefore we should all have a desk, a parking spot, and a comfortable working environment.

Ugh, I don't understand all the griping. If you can't find a seat, just make one yourself. Before work stop at home Depot and get yourself some wood to make a table and chair. It's not that hard!

@2bgj+1ulHViFk I'd suggest you get out of your bubble. There are groups making people make up missed days. Not to mention HR making people make up days after they have deemed a "pattern".

There’s no such thing as “making up” days missed during connect week. Read the FAQs. And if it’s important to you to get credit for showing up, show up by a reasonable time.

@ukw+1ulHViFk that isn't a solution. If there isn't a spot for every employee required to be in office there is a problem. If people don't have room to come in on off connect weeks how do they make up missed time? Or have a career, per Roger's thoughts?
Also, it is not just NC. Another smaller site had to tell people who started after 10am to not come in because they wouldn't have space. Not sure how they'll be tracking that so it doesn't appear as a pattern.
It's a mess, and there was 6+ months of groups planning for this.

Anyone notice HR isn’t on duty at night to meticulously ensure all posts have equal upvotes and downvotes? They do it during business hours.

Critical thinking. Did you hear the cafeteria ran out of food, or did you hear that someone posted on yammer that they heard a rumor the cafeteria ran out of food? And did the cafeteria run out of any and all food to the extent that a person couldn’t get a sandwich? Or did they run out of buffalo chicken? Did any of this happen? Is North Carolina even real?

I hope the cafeterias are well stocked with cheese to go along with these WHINES. Honest to God, get a grip.

If you were hired for a remote only job and now being told you must RTO then you have a legit gripe.

RTO is being done for many reasons. Fidelity through its various companies has a HUGE real estate portfolio. Empty buildings are not marketable. As the company rightsizes, they are looking to reduce this exposure / sell properties. By doing RTO, they're getting a gauge for what the next phase looks like, how much space is actually needed. They want the whiners and remote only folks gone. Leadership is of the old school mentality, they like to walk the floor and see their people. lame but true.

Im the only person on my team in my location, literally go to the office to be on video calls and chats. See my boss in person annually for my review when travel is allowed. I dont complain, thankful for the days I can work remote.

not having adequate parking to support their own RTO mandates is a great indicator of what an unprofessional, poorly executed mess our management and leadership is

Roger is clearly not connecting with the younger generation. He’s destroying their perceptions of Fidelity and they will not keep their money there.

Everyone is going to start going to the office earlier and earlier to get a seat in Raleigh until people are coming in at some ridiculous time to get a seat. How hard is to to come up with the logistics that if you have X number of parking spaces then if you have more people than parking spaces that's going to be a problem. It's so unbelievable how they can't figure out something so basic.

Oh my god. What exactly is the nightmare here? You’re being asked to go to the office half the time. In business casual. You can wear jeans. Yes the place fills up, but if you get there by 9 or even 9:30 you will find a workstation. There are still free snacks. Plenty of free fruit. They never had free snacks pre-pandemic. I saw that ridiculous post on Teams about the Raleigh parking situation. It said this was 10am. So get there by 9 then. And AGAIN, if there are all these plentiful jobs at other places that are fully remote and offer free snacks and let you wear ball caps, GO GET ONE.
