Remember when doing great work at Verizon meant you were on the fast track? Going above and beyond used to get you somewhere. Nowadays, it feels like mediocrity gets all the praise and rewards, while top performers are being pushed out the door. How are the rest of us supposed to stay motivated when it seems that doing the bare minimum is enough?

Our leaders have been around forever and are to used to everyone su-king up and telling them how brilliant they all are. They all believe they are gods gift to business but the stock value is in the toilet with no hope of growth so how good are they really?

Talking a good game, and stretching the truth, is praised more than intelligence.
This is why I took the VSP. I know of many highly skilled, hard working folks that took the VSP. Working hard means additional work, long hours and you're is expected to do it without complaints. Mediocre folks do just enough to get by, boss knows but looks the other way.
That is why I am leaving with the VSP. I have given more to this company than I should have and it nearly cost me my life. For awhile, working hard paid off until it didn’t. We create jobs for people- instead of doing the right thing and posting them we just move people into them. People who should have been considered for promotions are not. If you’re liked you’ll be protected. If you’re liked you’ll get promoted. Working hard truly means nothing at Verizon. If you allow yourself to become a puppet and do as you’re told, you’ll do well until the next round of RIFs. My advice- leave before this place before it has a chance to knock you down.
