Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

RTO is an attrition scheme

Don’t relocate, don’t lose time coming to some hub. All they want to do is to make you quit or create conditions you can not meet so they can fire you. Think about what is the best thing for yourself and act accordingly. I personally don’t think for a second that complying with the RTO will allow me to keep my job.

RTO is for the fools, in Miami we don't respect that. we work around the system , and we move 51 miles away from the office, so technically we are no longer in a commutable distance. Since we are loosely managed by Scotty DeLoach (Worst CIO this company has ever seen) this things fly under the radar, working from home, allows us to have more than 1 job and more than 1 income, Making VZ the best company to work for.

Be careful what you wish for….. Oh, sorry, I almost fell for that old excuse from the union. Here’s a timeline of my career at VZ.

1999: Hired as a rep. Literally the cr-ppiest job in the company. It will turn you into an animal. I really feel sorry for them.

2007: Took a tech position in New Jersey. Union steward in the CSSC said, “Be careful what you wish for”. Best job this company has and glad I didn’t listen to the union steward.

2014: Became a foreman in New York. Union steward said, “Be careful what you wish for”. Had a great team and felt real satisfaction with what I do. Glad I didn’t listen to the union steward.

2019: Finally took advantage of my degree and moved back to Jersey. The union steward in my garage, who is a great guy, said, “Be careful what you wish for”. Best 5 years of my life and once again, I’m glad I didn’t listen to the union steward.

2024: my career is leading me to retire at a young age. I have a sizable 401k, I’ve put a significant amount of income into a brokerage account, and am happier now more than ever.

The worst advice you’ll hear is ‘be careful what you wish for’.

Your hr rep will tell you there is still no plan in place that outlines consequences for failing to RTO. Do what you want as it’s all bark and no bite until those that have sued are successful or ruled against

Were you hired as work from home/remote?

You got hired to work from the office not home. By refusing to RTO gives them leverage on changing your pay. Becareful what you wish for.

Stay the straight and narrow until you can’t any longer.
