Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

So I resigned today..

Been at my job (Corporate Store) as a Rep for 6 years, I resigned effective immediately. I have $18K saved, kind of scared but this company was destroying me, I used to be a top Rep, 160% attainment for 4 years, got tired of it tbh & now for the past 2 years been at 90%. 6 years total at COR. This company has made me an alcoholic, a smoker, maybe I’m weak? I quit without a game plan, but maybe this is a good thing? I’m kind of depressed & sui-idal right now tbh. I just could not deal with this stuff anymore. The good thing is I only have $1,255 of debt, I am 43 years old Single man. I’m still scared because I don’t know who will Hire me as an older man tbh. Any encouragement is welcome!

I seriously appreciate all of the kind words and responses to my situation! Brings me tears. It’s been a rough time at this company. Everyone I started with left this company & I’m surprised it took me so long to leave.

God Bless & Thank you again!

What helps me with depression is early morning runs.

Take a long walk in the morning, clear your mind, stay away from the "news", get back on your feet, you're a good man.

If you were a top rep, and you like sales, consider becoming a finance manager at a car dealership (I bumped into a former rep when I bought my car recently). If you don’t want to sell, watch 30 minutes of YouTube per day about careers you’d like to try - programming SALESFORCE, marketing specialist, accounting or teacher. Keep looking. Good luck!

Weak?? Not at all, Anonymous or not, you had to think about your words, you had to type it out or you had to speak them. That takes courage.

OP, keep your head up-6 years in the retail environment is commendable, and for what it's worth that comp plan your were on, it's designed to keep you below 100% so don't feel like you failed going from 160% to 90%. Overachieving on production quotas may seem like a good thing, and getting those accelerators, but to finance all you are doing is increasing our aquistion cost per gross-add. This is why the quota game is rigged-have a great 2024-close a large no-share-low-share account and maybe even go to President's club, well your 2025 quota is going to be increased and that low-share account you closed where you got 100% of their business will now carry a 3X quota over the production you generated in 2024. Look at the quota increases for all the sellers and various business segments, many saw a mid-year 20-35% quota increase then look at our commitment to the street or Stankey's comments on projected growth -3% and it's not hard to see how the game is rigged. Good Luck, something better is out there for you

Best thing you could have done. Right now focus on your mental health and well being. Go talk with someone (family/friends). Go visit some folks or take a trip out somewhere for a few days. Don’t be alone and dwell. A few days away focusing on something else will do wonders for your mental state. You will be just fine. It’s a job, there are plenty out there. What you did takes courage to do. Go spend time with some people, do something fun, clear your head. In a week or two, this place and its worries will be a distant memory.

I just quiet quit, it helped to remove a lot of the stressors from my work life. Stankey's toxic environment of disempowerment makes one not care about this company. Words and actions matter, we are all widgets and not valued assets. How he is treating bargained in the negotiations proves it even more, only he and the BOD are the untouchables.

Good luck in your next chapter, I’m sure you will be much better! You are mid-career still have 20+ years of work life unless, you hit the lottery 🎉

Whatever you do, don’t give up on you. You will see more clearly now everything we go through to hold on here makes you stronger outside the arena. Take some time, talk to someone who can help you navigate those thoughts. You are not weak, most of us would rather work somewhere else. You had the courage to actually leave. Best of luck to you.

It’s just a job man, and at 43, you’re not “old”. You’re going to be fine and just wish you had done it sooner. Best of luck to you.

You aren't alone. Yesterday I told my wife, there's not much more of this place I can take. She said "we'll be all right" and was all I needed to hear.

Would rather work as a w@lm@rt greeter than this place.

Leaving a toxic job takes real courage, and you’re not weak for doing so. You prioritized your mental health, which is huge. It’s okay to feel scared, but you have $18K saved, minimal debt, and years of strong experience. At 43, your value and skills still matter. Take things one day at a time, focus on self-care, and trust that it can only get better from here. I quit a bad job too, and it was the best decision I ever made … You've got this!
