Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Layoff Proof of Concept

The longer the strike lasts, the more validation there will be for large manager cuts having minimal impact. Remaining managers will be able to cover with overtime.

In 2026, most of the union folks will be gone. It was a huge mistake to strike.

Layoffs are still going on. You think they care? Projects are delayed all over and no one cares.

Why do comments get deleted?

The algorithm is AI. It doesn't yet understand the comments about wives and their extra curricular activities, pool boys and trapeze acts when your deployed. It is still in the learning stage. Feel free to ask anymore AI associated questions.

When the CP managers handle the work with a fraction of the people and training, they'll be reconsidering union employees needed.

Why do comments get deleted? It makes you wonder who the moderators are. I see people calling names, talking about wives, but then sensible comments get deleted time again.

OP where did you obtain your management degree, or were you hired due to YT privilege without the necessary business acumen?

“ All the poor conditions you spoke about is the reasons why unions were organized. Though not perfect, they at least give employees some protections, work rules, job security, etc. that the company has to abide by”

Couple issues, we aren’t allowed to unionize. Even discussing it would result in termination. I know most would be more than happy to join though if the CWA wanted to start some conversations. Read this board on the regular and you’ll see just how bad it is for that L2 office worker. It’s really bad.

“ They are not your enemy. Most salivate at the offer you guys got. We’d ki-l for that kind of bump.”

All the poor conditions you spoke about is the reasons why unions were organized. Though not perfect, they at least give employees some protections, work rules, job security, etc. that the company has to abide by, even though they try to bend the rules all the time. That’s why a grievance process is so important, it gives a voice to the individual or as a group. If a company treated their employees as partners in the enterprise and empowered them then, there wouldn’t be a need for a union. We all know elite’s greed always raises its head because they aren’t regulated. Free market rules only work if all are able to share fairly in the profits. Otherwise it becomes the Lords and the serfs, AT&T is at that point.

“ funny how it’s breezy and cool on the picket line but scorching hot at the install location. you are full of sh-t”

We are chilling under a pop up right now eating lunch, this is nice and cool for us. Remember we work 365 @ yr and have adapted to the weather. You’ve only been at it a couple of weeks, try being forced and notified about the time your shift is about to end or have to work until the load is clear continuously. It’s why we are asking for lower OT caps. Tired of not having quality time with our families. We don’t have an option to WFH.

They make about the same as your base pay.

They make now if they came from craft.

Craft to 1st line = 10% pay increase.
1st line to 2nd line = another 10% pay increase.

You guys really are clueless when it comes to the people you call managers that are doing the CP deployments or they get fired. I think you are confusing the L2 exempt office workers for the L3+. They are just workers like you doing different jobs. They manage no one, make few if any decision, and just do office work. Office work can be accounting, software development, design, marketing, payroll, legal, website work. Tons of things needed to keep the business going. They have been cut to the bone. Most already work 50+ hr weeks with no time for a break or lunch, no comp time or OT. They make about the same as your base pay. They don’t get huge bonuses. Their healthcare is expensive and terrible, covers nothing. Raises are less than 2%. They get laid off at the drop of a hat with little notice then it’s 2 weeks of severance per year of service. They are not the problem. They are not your enemy. Most salivate at the offer you guys got. We’d ki-l for that kind of bump.

No BBQ today, Stir fry in a Wok. Thought we would change it up today. Be safe out there and try not to create more issues while temporizing because we will be back in a couple of weeks and will have to correct all of it. Trying to R&R for all the forced OT upon return, it has been nice not working straight through the summer. Even though the weather has been the coolest I’ve seen in August, makes picket line duty much easier. About to start my 4 hour shift then back home to watch some football 🍺.

You are clueless. This company is replacing you with cheap contract labor and you are helping them accelerate the process. The longer this drags out the more capital the company has to hire and train contractors. Exempt employees will continue to be culled as they have been over the last 10 years until headcount targets are achieved. Managers as you like to call them are no longer the expensive part of this equation. You are. This su-ks for everyone. Enjoy the bbqs.

Increasing scope of work, Stankey loves it. 3 for the price of 1, as one of his sycophants put it, “designed and planned”.

This situation is a win-win strategy for leadership. A longer strike will both control the union resulting in lower contract settlement and help with justification for further management cuts.
