Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

How many connect weeks until layoffs?

Really what is the plan here? Are we getting laid off or not? My manager has been spreading rumors of my whole renting being fired for years and I can’t take the stress anymore. I was here before the pandemic and NEED this job!

I thought it was special treatment just for me but returning to the office made us all talk.

Careful what you wish for on the layoff. Looking for a job, while unemployed is much more stressful than having a job that at this moment in time su-ks.

I had a manager ( not at Fidelity ) who once told me you should always be planning for your next gig. That means Resume up to date, networking when you can, linked in profile current, skill set up to date as much as possible. You never know what'll be around the corner or maybe you'll see an opportunity somewhere you'll want to jump at.

Is this a joke? whats a "renting" ?

Best to plan ahead and be sure to have your linkedin profile up to date and lots of connections. as your peers land elsewhere, they will be the best way into to a new opportunity. networking is the single best way to get hired. applying online right now is awful most submissions dont get past the automated filters and are never reviewed by a real person. if you can tell a friend that works at a company that you applied there, they can talk to the hiring manager who can pull your application to review.

You don’t know what’s going to happen so please try not to worry too much. Just try your best to always have a back up plan in mind or some ideas for a safety net. Think of many places you could get a cushion from (30 days after separation you can take your 401k, worst comes to worst). Think of friends who you could temporarily work for. Always be job hunting anyway. I’m sorry you were thinking about this on your weekend. I hope you have a good week.

At Fidelity you should always assume you are getting laid off, just accept that if profits are down so to are the days of famine and hunger. It’s just a game to the elites.
