Boeing reaches tentative labor deal - No Strike

General wage increase 25% over 4 year contract and a new plane commitment to be built in the Seattle area. If approved by the majority 32,000 members it will avert a crippling strike, per Reuters article.

“ The deal comes as workers are capitalizing on tight labor markets to make gains. The United Auto Workers union won a similar 25% general wage pay hike over four-and-a-half years with the Detroit Three last autumn.”

Here at AT&T, labor is still asking HR and Stankey to bargain in good faith. It’s been over a month since the contract expired on Aug 3.

$163.00 is a good deal. Their stock will rise because they are and will continue to be in bed with the Government. The DoD contracts they get are huge. On the commercial side, they are pretty much the only US commercial airplane manufacturer. The government won’t let them go belly up. They are the GM of the aerospace sector.

Sorry to bust your bubble but those 32,000 employees aren’t all engineers, most are skilled labor, just like AT&T. Who do you think manufactures and assembles all the planes? I promise you it isn’t engineers.

“Boeing is not AT&T. Their jobs require skilled engineers with Master’s and BBS degrees in Math or Engineering. They make at least $50,000 more than a level 32 at AT&T. They also require employees to work and meet crazy deadlines. Their benefits are top notch too. Every other Friday off and a paid week off at Christmas. It’s a shame that they can no longer make reliable airplanes, rockets or we-pons. LM and NG are running circles around them now. Feel sorry for those guys stuck on the international space station. Hope they are at least making some serious bank.”

Network engineers make decent money, I passed $200k with bonuses last year….but you hit the nail on the head, Boeing got rid of a lot of their high earning engineers, outsourced a lot of work, and cut cut cut to increase stock price in the short term.

Does T make planes? No, but we have a complex network that requires skilled labor to maintain and, trust me, they’re trying to cut cut cut.

The reason Boeing was able to come to an agreement with the union is because their CEO doesn’t golf all the time.

There’s been impact all over the company.
We can’t even deploy network software due to there being a software freeze because of the strike.

As for management layoffs, they’re firing everyone regardless which has also had negative customer impact.

T can afford it just fine, Stankey gets millions, they waste millions on frivolous things like sending the c-suite to Paris for the Olympics, Stankeys private jet, they just gave Ericsson $14b and they can’t even give us working software.

If the company aims to stay competitive over a long-term and not just chase short term stock gains then they will need skilled employees on staff.

There’s many lessons one can take from Boeing as they also fell into this cost cutting trap that destroyed their company and reputation.

It worked til it didn’t and the shareholders figured out what a cluster it was and now the stock is in the toilet.
If T keeps going the way it is, it’s destined for the same fate.

First bargain in good faith and then unlock a little of that Free Cash Flow of over 16 billion dollars they bragged to Wall St. with a financial guidance of more plus eliminating more debt in 2024 and beyond.

BOD begs to differ with you when they gave CEO Stankey a 3 million dollar raise and handed out fat bonus checks for all management in March this year. Peddle your nonsense somewhere else because that dog won’t hunt!
