Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Letters

L2 letters have been sent out. I met with my manager today—feels like the calm before the storm. Just to clarify, I'm not moving to Dallas.

What’s more pointless is that we are still hiring. I just saw an ad on LinkedIn for ATT hiring positions in Dallas area. Stop laying off people in Dallas and retrain them. But that’s not point obviously. The company wants to dump the higher salary and vacation time and bring in someone off the street and brand new

The point is T is draconian, they don’t care about performance or what age/demographic you are - they only care about location.

They’re cutting TDPers who live in the wrong place after they finished the 2 year program, it’s ridiculous.

TDP is college grads….not 50 somethings….
Guess you didn’t know that.

“Everyone they converted from TDP to full time in St. Louis, Chicago, and California they’ve sent letters to.
Those were all young people.
You were saying?”

Great. Then if you choose to move you may keep your job in your new location. If you are 50 something and not considered the desirable demo goal, they can and may terminate your job out from under you AFTER you say yes. No rumor there.

BTW, I know people in Stl and Chitown. A he-l of a lot of them were 50 something.
You were saying?

“I call BS. No way in he-l Stank is getting rid of anyone in their 20’s.”
…..it’s location based dude…wtf are you talking about?“

No ta-d. RTO is location based FOR THOSE they want to get rid of.
Out of state RTO (prying your job out from your hands and relocating it far away) is a selective shakedown. They don’t want to shakedown everyone. They want T to represent a younger energetic, diverse culture. We need to get younger remember?
We realize that older people are at a different station in their life? remember?

““ I’m the dude….yes, I’m real, yes I AM technical…

I got an extension to wave 3 - they want me to move to Dallas and I’m already located in a ‘hub’.

They did give me an extension and I haven’t gotten a letter but I expect I will ”

You’re an id--t. Just like I said, no way they are getting rid of a dude in their 20’s. And for the other id--ts, RTO is not location based. RTO is only location based for the selected demographic they are leaning the hardest on. This dude isnt going anywhere. He didn’t even receive his letter, Are you all that stupid to think they would make it so obvious?

Sure he was told he would have to move to Dallas. But it’s nothing without a letter. He was extended/saved for a reason you d-mb sh--s.”

So you’re saying the company is being intentionally ageist and racist and only laying off certain ‘demographics’?

“If you are young and have technical skills you should be doing yourself a favor and leave T asap. Staying here will make you miserable. You will not learn any new skills and you will be losing the knowledge you already have. You will work in toxic environment. There is no culture here. What matters to Stankey is if you are sitting in the filthy and noisy hub office 3-5 days a week. He will monitor you. There is no innovation. You will be threatened with layoffs every day. Your benefits will be stripped to 0.”

It’s sad, but I know you’re right…

They did give me an extension and I haven’t gotten a letter but I expect I will eventually, but this is the exact problem with how they’re doing this - it isn’t performance or based on any other factors besides location…it’s an axe to attack a problem that needs a scalpel…
We’ve been trying to tell you Stankey supporters this for a while.

The young folks are getting rid of themselves. They see how tenured folks are treated and want no part of it. At least that is what I'm observing on my team.

If you are virtual then your job can be done anywhere (India). By the end of 2025 virtual will be no more for employees

There are no L2 letters. Many L2s have already been laid off and many more will be, some without being asked to move. Every group is doing it differently.

It is telling- told to relocate on your own dime with no guarantees. If they really wanted to keep you, wouldn’t they provide some type of support financially? Every other company does, so what does that tell you?

All those who decline relocation will be replaced with H1B and IDC personnel. Regards J. Legg

I’m aware of six people who got the same situation earlier in the year. It was a call with HR and their manager about relocation to Dallas- no guarantees, no relocation assistance. They all said no. Eventually all of them got caught up in the round of layoffs.

Well, as usual, whoever posted hasn’t provided any other evidence, an org, anything and no one has posted to corroborate…so it must be another HR troll.

“Let me guess with my powers that can read the smoke signals from the Stanks farts. You are white, 50 something, technical, and were well rated over the past year. You have been a decent contributor yet after all this, they chose your new office location to be out of state. Sadly, once you are gone there is very little doubt that your replacement will be hand selected to better represent our reimagined diverse and equitable workforce.”

I mean, I think a lot of people wanted to read the landscape closer to when they were scheduled to move…
No one can predict 18 months prior the state of the economy, the state of the company, etc…and T isn’t exactly known for their follow-through.

I’m personally deciding not to move since the fear would be moving and getting laid of anyways which I’ve heard has happened to quite a few people. The company is headed in a bad direction and I frankly wouldn’t want to deal with being forced into downtown Dallas with its sh---y parking and other issues tbh.

I considered it when Plano was an option but leave it to Stank.

I’m gonna say give me virtual or I’m out and if they say no then whatever.

At least you’ve had 18 months since RTO was formally announced to make a final decision.

People need to be more specific with these posts, they stir up a lot of fear and intentionally vague posts don’t help and only stir up additional fear.

Unless that’s the intention, like some posts on here trolling people.

If you have news about it this you should list wave, org, means of communication (should I be expecting an email or a letter in snail mail in days?), etc.

Vague rumor posts just make people anxious and amplify uncertainty.
