If I were posing debate questions to Scharf, my question would be:
“Your time as CEO of Wells Fargo has been a time of aggressive downsizing and, let’s just call it what it is: Profits over People. You have eliminated 40,000 employees, offshored tens of thousands of American jobs to India and the Philippines, closed hundreds of brick and mortar locations, sold off multiple profitable business lines and yet — Where are the profits??? The only few people who have profited from all this callous destruction are you and your senior leaders. The bank’s shareholders are not profiting from your leadership. The bank’s customers are not profiting from your leadership. Your employees are certainly not profiting from your leadership. How do you explain 5 years of poor results for everyone except you and your cohorts?”
