Fire the SE strikers? Yes it’s legal

I think this should be on the table. The contract is up and the ridiculous demands (in my opinion of course) are so far apart , apparently the union leadership apparently doesn’t like the benefits and working conditions of the company anymore. As T leadership has mentioned- if you don’t like it here, go somewhere else.
The strike is not based on ‘unfair labor practices’ … it’s all economic and benefit strong-arming . There’s a limit to ‘reasonable expectations’ and sorry but your pay and benefits are not based on your debts or your wants.

You might want to pull out your HP17B because you have exceeded the abilitieis of your fingers and toes. 2080 * $200 is $416K/year. No non-management employee is costing ATT that much per year without significan OT. Every org with non-management employees is getting OT so it is costing ATT a lot more to replace a non-managment employee with a $200/Hr contractor. The reason ATT, or any company, hires contractors is for short term assistance in an area that the company does not have an expertise. The contractor gives the company flexibility to cut the contractor loose at any time without post employment repercussioins. Right now, ATT is missing expertise in a specific area due to the strike, and until the strike is over, ATT does not really have the flexibility to cut the contractors loose. ATT will definitely feel the pain of paying contractors. And remember, the contractors are only doing repairs, not new installs. No new installs, no new revenue.

@ssu+1uuBndYO you obviously don't work in Finance, nor have any idea of what your costs are to the company. Factor in your salary, your healthcare costs, social security and medicare taxes (company portion) company 401k match, pension contributions, none of which are paid to contractors. And I don't have to result to insults to make my case. The average loaded rate is way over $200. Why do you think companies contract out work? Because it's cheaper and can be adjusted up/down based on the available work.

First, you have totally misconstrued what the companies offer is. It’s $40k in cumulative gains. Not $3k per month extra. Having said that, I agree it is still more than most get.

That may be true but it does not matter if the law is on their side. Until a court overturns or rules agains the strike action, it is a ULP strike and the employees cannot be fired.

It’s all about you guys getting more money and cheaper benefits, and I get that. But seriously an average $40k pay increase over 5 years sure does pay for a ton of healthcare. Which btw you would have 0 copay and 0 prescription costs. Thats over $3k extra per month in pay and a way better healthcare plan than anyone I can think of. Yeah I'm sorry, but after I saw what your offer was, I was like, wow. I’d sing the company theme song every day to work if I got what you were offered. Mandatory overtime no work life balance, pfft, you guys get paid extra for that. I have to do that every day and I get nothing. It’s real hard to be sympathetic for you all when we see what your offer was and you claiming unfair vs what we get and when you bad mouth your fellow workers because they aren’t craft. You want to talk about 2nd class, go sit in one of these office jobs in Atlanta or one of the other cities outside Dallas. Watch your coworkers get walked out the door on the regular, nervous every week about getting laid off, see your annual performance increase of less than 2% if your lucky no matter how much money you save the company, health costs go up with sky high deductibles. No extra bonuses, no recognition, no advancement, no time to grab lunch, no breaks. Having to respond 24x7 to calls and emails, miss family stuff even working on your vacation and off time. The company is giving us all a raw deal, leadership stinks all the way up, but you guys are really looking like spoiled brats these days. Oh btw, I’m sure whatever deal you get they will just cut more office people to pay for it.

The only relationship here is that the more they concede to the union, the more it will negatively impact the non-union folks. The management “take backs” is what funds the increases and stability for the bargained for folks. The money comes from somewhere.

OP is a fool with no knowledge of the situation. The issue is about Prem/Wire techs. They’re trying to move more work to that title while they’re paid a lot less than Core. Have horrible scheduling, zero work/balance, bad mandatory OT rules, etc. 80% of the salary increase proposed will go to covering increased healthcare costs. IMO company strategy is to get rid of the high salary tech titles through attrition and move everything to the low paid premium techs over time. I’m not bargained for either. Keep in mind, the bargained for benefits is what helps keep them from continuing to erode the mgmnt benefits. Look at all the take backs over the last 6 yrs.

Has everything to do with ULP, the union negotiators want to get to the actual part of bargaining in good faith. Once ULP is off the table then, they can discuss the proposals from both sides and eventually come to an agreement. It involves many items that members submitted on their bargaining suggestion forms. Lowering forced OT cap, scheduling, work rule improvements, healthcare, increasing vacation roll over, etc.

This is a good point. I'm so tired of their buzz words, "unfair labor practices", "not negotiating in good faith", all this noise. 🤣😂 Like you said it’s your opinion and no the company can’t legally fire ULP strikers. If you are so interested, go read the NLRA of 1935 about collective bargaining especially, the part on unfair labor practices. We can see your frustration, probably a CP assignee. We too are ready for a fair contract so we can get back to working. The vitriol should be directed towards Stankey, we are all widgets in his kingdom.

Until then we will keep grilling, chilling and showing up in Unity on the picket line! With Stankey’s latest statement a few days ago, imo a TA will be forthcoming very soon.

You can't fire them. Whether or not you believe the Union's claims of Unfair Labor Practices are legitimate, the strike was classified as a ULP strike. Consequently, those workers are protected under the NLRA.

Anyone remember the Covid-19 pandemic 😷 when the front line “essential” union employees kept the company afloat for a couple of years while, putting their lives at risk? If I remember right, all managers sheltered and worked from home, even now Stankey is trying to RTO many of them who worked in the offices prior to the pandemic. 😷

Stankey and HR needs to settle or stop the ULP actions, bargain in good faith with CWA negotiators and settle on a fair TA. It will then be put before the union employees to review and vote on. I feel it’s close to being done since Stankey put out his statement a few days ago.

I am not sure any of that is legal given the type of strike we are out on. For those that think this isn’t financially or operationally viable, I wouldn’t be so sure. The fact is that the vast majority of folks would work for whatever contractor took over the work in their area. The contract pricing would come way down based on the contractor having all of the work. Let’s get to an agreement with the company and never say never.
