Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

RTO 5 Days per Week --- itsa comin'!

Once the VSP waves are let go this year, expect a full 5 day RTO in 2025. Plus a flatter organization. If you are a leader with 5 or less, you will no longer be a leader! waa-wah

See the news at Amazon today, and that's the train heading toward VZ land!

I don’t see why if they would give you a package if you don’t want RTO. You’re quitting.

This post is either a boomer jerking off to the thought of meaningless water cooler time like the olden days or a union troll.

Flattening the org will be more impactful to the business than RTO. Faster decision making. Clearer accountability. Empowering employees.

Hey wait a min!
I've learned a lot watching Dr. Phil and the Nature channel shows!

There probably will be “unwritten” exceptions for those who were hired into remote roles during the pandemic. Or, as one of the comments suggests, those who were hired as a remote role are being targeted to be pushed out. Bottomline, RTO is being used as a scapegoat for VZ poor performance: strategy is bad, don’t blame the execution.

It's about time! I have enough of people with fake backgrounds, basements, kitchens, dining rooms and bedrooms in the backdrops, taking naps in between conference calls or watching Dr. Phil ...

Guess I’m on the other side of the argument. I like being in the office and being able to collaborate and socialize a bit with co-workers. I was hired during the pandemic and having to work across silos was incredibly difficult. Remote work 100% made me feel very isolated. 5 days in might be a bit much for some people. There should be some managerial latitude on this.

Verizon doesn’t lead by example they follow unproven examples.

RTO is a tactic to force people out... I wouldn't be surprise Basking Ridge will eventually shut down only to move to Irvin, TX.

Why, does it seem, everyone is upset about RTO. When the employee got hired, they were required to come to and work from an office. Now the employee wants to change that and work from home . What makes the employee think Verizon won’t change the pay for someone working from home. Be grateful you were able to not commute for this long, sorry to say the party is over.

3 days RTO seems inevitable. If they do 4 or 5, I wonder if they have rules on how long you have to be in-office. My buddy works at AT&T, and he scans in for a few hours, then leaves.

Not having to go into the office every day has off-set the cost getting such a cr-ppy raise! Bottom line is RTO 5 days a week is going to cost employees ALOT of money in this economy. Has anyone had to get their car repaired lately? Its CRAZY expensive...I would be OK with RTO, but how about a decent raise?

Let's see how it plays out for Amazon. They might regret that decision.

Why do we just keep copying AT&T?

We have the same “2020 Vision” goal where we cut 30% in the next 3 years, except it’s 2027 and 25%.

And per OP, doing away with leaders of small teams. They did this too - no teams with less than 10 reports.

Work from home is a job ki-ler wake up people. Everyone is replaceable anyone can answer phones and learn the job . There is no solidarity and no fight allowing them to close offices and redirect your job to right to work states or foreign countries the company does not care about you. They care about the bottom line . We have a two tier contract now at Verizon ( Worst contract negotiation ever) all the senior or ready to retire workers are not promised retirement medical or the benefits they retired on it goes contract to contract ( There is no way that new members are going to go on strike for you/us/me . So if you are planning to retire add in medical benefits to that cost of living.
