Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

What's going on with promotions?

Is it just me, or has the whole company hit pause on promotions without letting us know? I was promised one over a year ago, and still nothing. Every time I ask about it, I get the same "don't worry, it's happening" line, but then... radio silence. Is it even possible for someone who doesn’t have connections to actually move up around here?

Some managers are refusing to promote if people are permanent BAH workers due to building closures. Best bet is to look for a job with a different company. Good luck

Internal mobility is the only serious way to get a promotion.

Its because you’re already doing the work of a promoted individual, just without the promotion. Which means they’re ok with paying you less and not giving you that official title.

Managers now have to justify why they need another higher level team member . Not impossible but hard. Promotions and career growth are not ‘guaranteed’. In fact career growth or promotion pretty much requires you to shift teams .

I retired earlier this year, but felt I needed to add information for this topic.

My business unit was bought from PNC Bank in 2010. My manager started the promotion process in 2010 - and just as BNY took over - that took 2 1/2 years to complete my promotion.

Their promotion process was nonsensical and was created to simply slow down the promoting of employees.

Using the periodic surveys throughout the year, I complained about this along with the nonexistent internal transfers system.

It took years for an upper-level managers to take notice where we did speak by phone. He did offer help, but nothing would solve the problems that BNY has.

Retiring was my best choice.

No its not once a year. NYC managers , like LaRue Braithwait, are being allowed to promote , hire in their location which isnt a “growth” location and stealing people from other areas. Everyone else is getting jammed up but not this shady bi--h or her direct reports. Plus her team is making what mgrs make and they cant tie their damn shoes without instructions 100 times on how. Someone senior or in Hr needs to see why that is
