Ha, since I was personally attacked as a ‘racist’ I’ll respond as what a racist would respond: I have Indian friends! My thesis advisor, several mentors who propelled me on my career path are all fine specimens of Indians.

Seriously, some thoughts to add on to the experiences that led to my previous post:

If you ponder over the immigrants and their country of origin, on the macro level:

The Chinese in America are nothing to worry about, China is something to worry about.
The Japanese in America are nothing to worry about, Japan is something
The Koreans are nothing to worry about, Korea is something
The Filipinos are nothing to worry about, Philippines is nothing
The Hattians are nothing to worry about, Hati is nothing
The Mexicans are nothing to worry about, Mexico is nothing

The Indians are something to be watched very carefully, India is nothing

Unfortunately, Western politicians who don’t have to compete for resources and opportunities with Indian immigrants don’t see it this way:
• H1B is abused by ICC (Indian consulting companies) here in the US
• Britain has the “India Young Professionals Scheme Visa” to allow Indian citizens between 18 and 30 years old to live and work in UK for up to 2 years
• Germany is considering similar visa programs to attract Indian talents

Yes, I should quit posting ‘racist’ comments here and start writing to my senators. Meanwhile, you should talk to your community leaders to prevent something like ‘anti-desism’ to appear.

H1B is supposed to be used to hire highly skilled workers for roles that can't be filled by Americans. Congress should set a minimum salary level of 150k for all H1B workers. This will stop the abusive hiring practices that American companies are using to hire foreign workers.

lol that the company would be able to find qualified Americans with one year of courses. We all see what happened with the Covid hires. We need people who actually understand their role.

"Three of these guys do a job an American could do with a one year basic tech course"
Can't agree more. It's American corporations' moral duty to nurture and grow Americans. Yet, Fidelity allowed the colonization/occupation of low end foreign workers.

Wow… you all should really call your senators to discuss your options on immigration. Not come to a site that is about layoffs to discuss these ideas.

Please read this in a “speak to a tax advisor” tone.

If you stay in a budget hotel, chances are it’s owned by Indians. The pork and beef you eat at the free continental breakfast are handled by Indian staff. The illegal Indian migrants at the northern border most likely are the labor supply. Same with gas stations, UPS/postal stores and other mom and pa small businesses. Have you noticed that you’re served more and more by Indians? Walmart, banks, and even elementary school teachers. I wish some journalists do a deep dive in this area.

All Asian immigrants are family oriented. But unlike the Chinese, who are atheists whose trusts of each other were ki-led during the culture revolution, who are largely self-contained without a community, the Indians build extravagant temples looking down on the surrounding churches, they keep their long names, they insert their holidays into public school calendar... they have a non-assimilating community. Crowd-sourced investment deals are struck in the temples and they have a non-assimilating economy. At every corner and echelons of our society, Indians are invasive!

Understand that some countries are indeed shtty. You need to do truly shtty things to survive. Why not enjoy life here with minimal shtty things involved? Unavoidably this place is being enshttened.

I'd prefer the H1B contestants go home and make their own country an economic powerhouse. What is the need to come to the USA? Go away and make competitors to the USA in your hometown please. The world would be better off.

It's more of abuse than scam I'd say. The other night a fight almost broke out on a busy neighborhood pickle ball court when what looks like a h1b guy use three rackets to line up so he can play more games. He rightly pointed out to the rules no such provision against his practice : )

h1b is meant for the best and brightest yet it's abused by folks, that's it.

Working at Fidelity made it very clear to me what a scam the H1B1 visa program has been. I am not against immigration, but don’t lie to people and claim this program is to bring in talent that cannot be found in the U.S. Three of these guys do a job an American could do with a one year basic tech course.
