Many hub people with remote exceptions in tech

How come so many people that live by tech hubs (ex. Charlotte, Phoenix, Dallas) have remote exceptions while other people were brought back. Looks like this is the case from individual contributors to executives. These people all can’t have remote accommodations can they?

Seems like the location strategy was done pretty unfairly in a lot of tech groups.

Saul said there are two waves next year at a recent meeting. There were two this year. It’s gonna happen, the “when” is the only question.

There is a methodology they use. Like if you’re an issue owner for an important issue, they probably aren’t laying you off first. Or if you’re hard to replace skills wise.

They aren't dumping all the remote workers immediately. I know several people that are remote that know it's a dead end, but it might not happen until next year some time.

And there will be people who have medical exceptions.

My co-worker has a medical exception and is remote, even tho she lives only 30 mins away from the office. Yet, she goes to weddings, night outs, grocery shopping. She goes everywhere but the office. But whatever.

lols. Doesn't matter if people go to an office or not, the plan is to get rid of all of us either way. Hardly anyone is getting downsized due to failure to comply with RTO anymore. That's the past. Location Strategy is winding down also. 2/3 of people getting canned now are in hubs. Doesn't matter. Like I said, we all go, the only question is when. It won't be long. Outsource, contract, automation, or WF simply leaving the business you're in. One of them will get you. Prepare accordingly.

I would say if you have a medical it would be wise to figure out how you will accommodate WF. They are being real harsh borderline inappropriate but i am sure they have their lawyers all over it so i would assume they can do what they are doing. The accommodating at the office is bunk. They will not accommodate you but the HR letter will say that they have but they do nothing. I am saying this to be aware if you have a medical you may want to just return and let the wheels fall off based on experience. Sort of a prove it scenaro. Not sure whose idea it was to turn the page so severely but no one is safe from this so if you value your employment than i guess you have to su-k it up. I guess if you go to the movies or shopping and you can get around there is a way you can at least work part time at the office and basically everyone has that flex. Next up will be 4 then 5 day in office which will be harsher than any rule in the past but this is the new WF. Gimme a reason to let you go and keep in mind….everyone is replaceable but some people upper management may be more willing to fight for them but for the masses forget it

Anyone remote in CA should be looking for a job. High cost region and remote your would need to have so many patents that they can’t afford to lose you otherwise consider your job at risk. I agree with the posters that you can bank on pretty much no exceptions for location, medical (if you are recovering from a serious illness they will grant some leeway but not long term and probably they will say a few days a week in office even if you only stay a few hours you will be coming in. WF has gone from lenient to darn right mean and the HR folks are pretty much rude. Oh you have crowns well we will put you near a restroom. Assume zero accomodation. If they have not gotten to your group no worries they will soon

There maybe exceptions those will be for good ole boys at the executive level ie Chariles directs and no one else. Yall forget the previous 4 CISOs in Cyber left because they were forced into the office.

I love that you can say we'll be affected with 100% certainty. There's always exceptions.

Just look at our CEO's working arrangement.

Trust me. All those folks in time will be forced to RTO. I heard it directly from the horses mouth. If you are remote, with whatever exemption skills, medical, etc.. that exemption is only temporary until they decide what to do with you. The thought is a warm body can do what you do.

a couple of managers have remote exception in CA. One friend on medical exception has to renew every year- though she will be coming back to the office next month. It is not a formula- something more.

It goes beyond Tech. There are execs in every BG and Ent. Function who are remote in places like Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia, etc., none of which are hubs or speciality markets for anything. They need to be shown the door just like the rest of us.

You can’t fix the glitch in a day. All of those exceptions will be corrected in time. The same reason Wells isn’t laying us all off in one fail swoop. They are doing this in waves, stages, steps and groups.

If it was a “rip the band aid off” type situation there would be too much impact to the business. There is little (notice I did not say none) immediate impact in the current methodology. It will be felt as processes and procedures break down over the long run.
