Impact on bonus and 401k match

If you are expecting a bonus early February next year and got laid off like in November, are you going to get your bonus or not ?

Also what is the deadline for the 401k match ?

This question gets asked way too much. Please go read the bonus section of the handbook, it's very clear.

bonus is 1/30, RSRs 1/23. I am retiring after bonus, so these dates have been on my calendar for months!

When is bonus payout date this year? It seems like 2/14 is kind of late but 1/31 is kind of early.

Bonuses are always discretionary. If it's going to me your manager's call, it would be wise to have a good relationship with your manager to maximize the odds of getting a parting gift bonus.

I was laid off at the beginning of November and still received full bonus. It is totally discretionary.

I am sure your mileage will vary, and while up to each individual group, if you look back at posts from this past February you will see there are plenty of laid off folks who received a bonus.

What if you are in a 60-day notice period when bonuses are paid out in February?
Would you likely receive it?

I’ve been told

If you are laid off: You get severance, no bonus.

Quit or retire: up to your manager if you get bonus

Fired: no bonus

You are not entitled to a bonus if you are displaced. Read the plan and displacement paperwork. This isn’t rocket science. It’s black and white.

We just qualified for the match as due to the 60 day notice , even if laid off tomorrow, we’ll be employees on 12/15

The former employee will be owed something material and commensurate. HR will enforce that. So then you are left with crumbs from any haircut you CAN do to sprinkle among survivors. That will be a rounding error.

Or you try to take care of your existing employees to make sure your team runs as optimally as it can. What's in the past is in the past

I flat out wouldn’t play such shell games. If somebody was bonus eligible (subject to rating and proration) they would get what they deserve.

You are “eligible” for a bonus, but don’t expect one. Why would a manager give you money out of their pool when they could give more to employees still on the team? Not entirely fair, but such is life.

Repeat questions never stop with complaints about them.

You are unclear what your layoff date is: notice date of last employment date.

The bonus date: had to be an employee even if on notice Sep 30. Match date: Dec 15.
