Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Will there be more layoffs anytime soon?

I'm starting to hope the answer is no, but you can never tell for sure with this place.

With well under 1.5% layed off this year, who in their right mind would be afraid of a layoff?

@5www+1v8MfvIN I was actively encouraged by HR to file for unemployment as soon as my regular pay stops and SUB begins.

They need to lay folks off now so they don’t have to match their 401k contributions

Can anyone clarify the unemployment rules? When you file a claim, the former employer is contacted, but can they contest your claim if you meet the eligibility requirements?

@5cze+1v8MfvIN That poster has a point. But you have to look at the big picture. At some point all staff located at non growth centers whether currently opened or closed will be given the choice to move to a growth center or be laid off. I doubt they want random people floating around. It’s not their goal.

@2ixo+1v8MfvIN - you really are d-mb aren't you? Why tf would layoffs be based on oriskany still having staff? You do realize mo--n that several facilties were closed before and after oriskany who also still have staff? You sound d-mb as f!

i hope its the high performers that are cut. They deserve better and these c class goons have to pay their price with hefty industry penalties for rolling out buggy projects delivered by bunch of 'analysts'. what goes around has to come around.

I begin each week here wondering if it’ll be my last. Wondering if that inevitable email for a quick meeting with my manger and HR is coming today. Or just a meeting with my manager and a bs PIP.

They still have Oriskany employees to get rid of, so yes.

Yes.. even RV and his troglydites realize that you cannot get rid of everyone. Their end state will be a smaller set of super analysts who can oversee, configure, override and approve the AI and robotic result sets. Without question, they are looking at the current state and looking to go from 50k to 25k. It’s the same advancements that the army, ocean going ships, manufacturing, client service basic support use now where you dont need legions of human beings anymore. I do not see RV completing this Darwinism anytime soon, but, its clear that this place has changed forever and not for the good.

Yes ok, layoffs are cheap. But AI and robotics cannot replace everyone and everything. The company still needs qualified, knowledgeable, experienced employees to run the day to day, get things done, and keep clients happy. However, this is only my opinion. I'm not sure RV or the Board feels this way.

Yes, it is true senior leadership comes and goes and many of the high priced used spare tires we hire do not understand the business. But, the fact of the matter is that they do not need to fully grasp it. They have figured out how to do job without deep senior knowledge. They can rely on a hodge podge of basics, bombast and their ‘yes’ people to figure it out. E.H. An L3 is a perfect example of this idiocracy. The real thing is this: our woke board and the investment community love what RV and his mob are doing. As long as that is happening, he is not going anywhere, nor are his inner circle and things will stay like this. The layoffs are a fact of life here. You will not last 25 years here. And as for India and offshore, RV has a plan for that too- its called AI and robotics. RV thinks its silly that we have 50,000 employees. He also thinks its silly to pay so many vendors for their software as well as 50k employees. And you know what? He is correct. Its hard to accept for us, but if you were the Captain of the ship, you would. To not do that would be to fail and refuse to grow and adapt. And RV and his trusted soldiers are doing that. Layoffs and cheap are here to stay until it isnt.

Senior leadership comes and goes so frequently they don’t know the businesses. Since they don’t know the businesses, they don’t have original/creative ideas for cost savings. As long as this is the case, there will continue to be reductions in headcount. It’s the only option when you don’t have any other ideas. They’ll be gone before they understand the business and the next person will do the same. They will get great incentive compensation and new opportunities while you are left to pick up the pieces.

So long as we continue to have a visionless incompetent woke uninspiring "senior" management that has no clue what the he-l it's doing, we will always have layoffs. These dimwits are one trick ponies. They only know how to "cost cut". That's it.

Yes, there will be layoffs in Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar, April, May and so on.

Asking such a question, makes me wonder if you have a pulse.

One more round in 2024. Not sure exactly when, but others on this board seem to have an idea. But yes, you can take it to the bank. It's coming.

Will all job grades and departments be impacted in 2024-2025?

From what I heard from a few people in the know, the 2025 budgets across the board have been significantly reduced and there are going to be a decent amount of layoffs beginning next year in order to meet the budget requirements unless there is a decent exodus of current employees. Could certainly be wrong but is what I heard.

In operations about 10% will be let go next year. They’re trying to get back to the pre Covid numbers. I guess they didn’t offset US layoffs with offshore growth as much as we thought or for every 1 laid off they hired 3 people offshore which makes more sense. Funny how they didn’t show the slides in terms of expense amounts just as headcount totals. I’m sure it’s still cheaper.

Yes. But not big enough that anyone (other than those impacted and their direct teams) will notice. And headcount will not change materially as we hire in growth centers plus “friends and family members” of our new hires. Saving the company, one layoff at a time.
